Now ¹  the men who were holding Jesus ²  under guard began to mock him and beat him.

We must go out to him, then, outside the camp, bearing the abuse he experienced. ¹ 

“You have surely noticed what these people are saying, haven’t you? They are saying, ¹  ‘The Lord has rejected the two families of Israel and Judah ²  that he chose.’ So they have little regard that my people will ever again be a nation. ³ 

For this is what the sovereign Lord says: Because you clapped your hands, stamped your feet, and rejoiced with intense scorn ¹  over the land of Israel,

For a son thinks his father is a fool, a daughter challenges ¹  her mother, and a daughter-in-law her mother-in-law; a man’s enemies are his own servants. ² 

But you will become drunk ¹  with shame, not majesty. ²  Now it is your turn to drink and expose your uncircumcised foreskin! ³  The cup of wine in the Lord’s right hand ⁴  is coming to you, and disgrace will replace your majestic glory!

Or do you have contempt for the wealth of his kindness, forbearance, and patience, and yet do not know ¹  that God’s kindness leads you to repentance?

But you who eat vegetables only – why do you judge your brother or sister? ¹  And you who eat everything – why do you despise your brother or sister? ²  For we will all stand before the judgment seat ³  of God.

and though my physical condition put you to the test, you did not despise or reject me. ¹  Instead, you welcomed me as though I were an angel of God, ²  as though I were Christ Jesus himself! ³ 

‘Cursed ¹  is the one who disrespects ²  his father and mother.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’

Deliver me from all my sins of rebellion! Do not make me the object of fools’ insults!

Arrogant people do nothing but scoff at me. ¹  Yet I do not turn aside from your law.

A person ¹  is praised in accordance with ²  his wisdom, but the one who has a twisted mind ³  is despised.

The one who oppresses ¹  the poor insults ²  his Creator, but whoever shows favor ³  to the needy honors him.

The one who mocks the poor ¹  insults ²  his Creator; whoever rejoices over disaster will not go unpunished.

One who has isolated himself ¹  seeks his own desires; ²  he rejects ³  all sound judgment.

Be wise, my son, ¹  and make my heart glad, so that I may answer ²  anyone who taunts me. ³ 

Babylon will become a heap of ruins. Jackals will make their home there. ¹  It will become an object of horror and of hissing scorn, a place where no one lives. ² 

In your days of majesty, ¹  was not Sodom your sister a byword in your mouth,

But they were indifferent and went away, one to his farm, another to his business.
