After assembling all the chief priests and experts in the law, ¹  he asked them where the Christ ²  was to be born.

Jesus replied, ¹  “I tell you the solemn truth, ²  unless a person is born from above, ³  he cannot see the kingdom of God.” ⁴ 

His disciples asked him, ¹  “Rabbi, who committed the sin that caused him to be born blind, this man ²  or his parents?” ³ 

They asked the parents, ¹  “Is this your son, whom you say ²  was born blind? Then how does he now see?”

At that time Moses was born, and he was beautiful ¹  to God. For ²  three months he was brought up in his father’s house,

Children of the third generation born to them ¹  may enter the assembly of the Lord.

You must not have sexual intercourse with your sister, whether she is your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, ¹  whether she is born in the same household or born outside it; ²  you must not have sexual intercourse with either of them. ³ 

And sons were also born ¹  to Shem (the older brother of Japheth), ²  the father of all the sons of Eber.

Two sons were born to Joseph before the famine came. ¹  Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, was their mother. ² 

Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, “All sons ¹  that are born you must throw ²  into the river, but all daughters you may let live.” ³ 

David married more concubines and wives from Jerusalem after he arrived from Hebron. Even more sons and daughters were born to David.

Nonetheless, because you have treated the Lord with such contempt ¹  in this matter, the son who has been born to you will certainly die.”

These six were born to David ¹  in Hebron, where he ruled for seven years and six months. He ruled thirty-three years in Jerusalem. ² 

These were the sons born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, ¹  Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon – the mother of these four was Bathsheba ²  the daughter of Ammiel. ³ 

I mention Rahab ¹  and Babylon to my followers. ²  Here are ³  Philistia and Tyre, ⁴  along with Ethiopia. ⁵  It is said of them, “This one was born there.” ⁶ 

But it is said of Zion’s residents, ¹  “Each one of these ²  was born in her, and the sovereign One ³  makes her secure.” ⁴ 

Jesus answered, “I tell you the solemn truth, ¹  unless a person is born of water and spirit, ²  he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

You have been born anew, not from perishable but from imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.

If you know that he is righteous, you also know ¹  that everyone who practices righteousness has been fathered ²  by him.

When a woman gives birth, she has distress ¹  because her time ²  has come, but when her child is born, she no longer remembers the suffering because of her joy that a human being ³  has been born into the world. ⁴
