You will be engaged to a woman and another man will rape ¹  her. You will build a house but not live in it. You will plant a vineyard but not even begin to use it.

The day you begin cultivating, you do what you can to make it grow; ¹  the morning you begin planting, you do what you can to make it sprout. Yet the harvest will disappear ²  in the day of disease and incurable pain.

So here is my opinion on this matter: It is to your advantage, since you ¹  made a good start last year both in your giving and your desire to give,

On the first day is a holy assembly; you must do no regular work. ¹ 

And on the fifteenth day of this month is the festival. For seven days bread made without yeast must be eaten.

And on the first day there is to be a holy assembly; you must do no ordinary work ¹  on it.

As you move forward for battle, the priest ¹  will approach and say to the soldiers, ² 

(1:18) ¹  Solomon ordered a temple to be built to honor the Lord, as well as a royal palace for himself. ² 

The king’s servants who attended him said, “Let a search be conducted in the king’s behalf for attractive young women. ¹ 

While they are still beginning to flower ¹  and not ripe for cutting, ²  they can wither away ³  faster ⁴  than any grass! ⁵ 

It is a snare ¹  for a person ²  to rashly cry, ³  “Holy!” and only afterward to consider ⁴  what he has vowed. ⁵ 

for all the cedars of Lebanon, that are so high and mighty, for all the oaks of Bashan; ¹ 

Then many will be led into sin, ¹  and they will betray one another and hate one another.

But those days are coming, and when the bridegroom is taken from them, ¹  at that time ²  they will fast.”

When they sprout leaves, you see ¹  for yourselves and know that summer is now near.

who is coming after me. I am not worthy ¹  to untie the strap ²  of his sandal!”

Did the word of God begin with you, ¹  or did it come to you alone?

Are you so foolish? Although you began ¹  with ²  the Spirit, are you now trying to finish ³  by human effort? ⁴ 

Then the Lord said to Moses, “You are about to die, ¹  and then these people will begin to prostitute themselves with the foreign gods of the land into which they ²  are going. They ³  will reject ⁴  me and break my covenant that I have made with them. ⁵ 

Was it just today that I began to inquire of God on his behalf? Far be it from me! The king should not accuse ¹  his servant or any of my father’s house. For your servant is not aware of all this – not in whole or in part!” ²
