But the older son ¹  became angry ²  and refused ³  to go in. His father came out and appealed to him,

So when the Samaritans came to him, they began asking ¹  him to stay with them. ²  He stayed there two days,

and came ¹  and apologized to them. After ²  they brought them out, they asked them repeatedly ³  to leave the city.

begging us with great earnestness for the blessing and fellowship of helping ¹  the saints.

The king ¹  sent a third captain and his fifty soldiers. This third captain went up and fell ²  on his knees before Elijah. He begged for mercy, “Prophet, please have respect for my life and for the lives of these fifty servants of yours.

Then Shechem said to Dinah’s ¹  father and brothers, “Let me find favor in your sight, and whatever you require of me ²  I’ll give. ³ 

¹ The Israelite foremen went and cried out to Pharaoh, “Why are you treating ²  your servants this way?

He said to me, ‘Stand over me and finish me off! ¹  I’m very dizzy, ²  even though I’m still alive.’ ³ 

Then David prayed to ¹  God for the child and fasted. ²  He would even ³  go and spend the night lying on the ground.

The king did not even listen to Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah, who had urged him not to burn the scroll. ¹ 

If they do this, tell ¹  them, ‘I was pleading with the king not to send me back to die in the dungeon of Jonathan’s house.’” ² 

Now ¹  a leper ²  came to him and fell to his knees, asking for help. “If ³  you are willing, you can make me clean,” he said.

but they urged him, ¹  “Stay with us, because it is getting toward evening and the day is almost done.” So ²  he went in to stay with them.

The man ¹  replied, “How in the world can I, ²  unless someone guides me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

So he gave orders to have them baptized ¹  in the name of Jesus Christ. ²  Then they asked him to stay for several days.

Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man from the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled ¹  forty years.

They said to one other, ¹  “Surely we’re being punished ²  because of our brother, because we saw how distressed he was ³  when he cried to us for mercy, but we refused to listen. That is why this distress ⁴  has come on us!”

When Esau heard ¹  his father’s words, he wailed loudly and bitterly. ²  He said to his father, “Bless me too, my father!”

At the time ¹  of the wheat harvest Reuben went out and found some mandrake plants ²  in a field and brought them to his mother Leah. Rachel said to Leah, “Give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”

Then Pharaoh summoned ¹  Moses and Aaron and said, “Pray ²  to the Lord that he may take the frogs away ³  from me and my people, and I will release ⁴  the people that they may sacrifice ⁵  to the Lord.”
