On the first day of the week, each of you should set aside some income ¹  and save ²  it to the extent that God has blessed you, ³  so that a collection will not have to be made ⁴  when I come.

Make sure you do not turn away to serve and worship other gods! ¹ 

Arrogant people do nothing but scoff at me. ¹  Yet I do not turn aside from your law.

we have sinned! We have done what is wrong and wicked; we have rebelled by turning away from your commandments and standards.

Our ¹  ancestors ²  were unwilling to obey ³  him, but pushed him aside ⁴  and turned back to Egypt in their hearts,

the young men would see me and step aside, ¹  and the old men would get up and remain standing;

to turn a person from his sin, ¹  and to cover a person’s pride. ² 

to deprive a person ¹  of his rights ²  in the presence of the Most High,

But when they had ordered them to go outside the council, ¹  they began to confer with one another,

Some have strayed from these and turned away to empty discussion.

Brothers and sisters, ¹  I offer an example from everyday life: ²  When a covenant ³  has been ratified, ⁴  even though it is only a human contract, no one can set it aside or add anything to it.

When the Lord ¹  saw that ²  he had turned aside to look, God called to him from within the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” ³  And Moses ⁴  said, “Here I am.”

When I looked, you had indeed sinned against the Lord your God and had cast for yourselves a metal calf; ¹  you had quickly turned aside from the way he ²  had commanded you!

But you must not turn away from all the commandments I am giving ¹  you today, to either the right or left, nor pursue other gods and worship ²  them.

Be very strong! Carefully obey ¹  all that is written in the law scroll of Moses so you won’t swerve from it to the right or the left,

Then Samuel said to the people, “Don’t be afraid. You have indeed sinned. ¹  However, don’t turn aside from the Lord. Serve the Lord with all your heart.

He did what the Lord approved ¹  and followed in his ancestor David’s footsteps; ²  he did not deviate to the right or the left.

“Let us ¹  pass through your land; ²  we will not turn aside into the fields or into the vineyards, nor will we drink water from any well, but we will go along the King’s Highway until we pass your borders.”

The donkey saw me and turned from me these three times. If ¹  she had not turned from me, I would have killed you but saved her alive.”

You must do what you are instructed, and the verdict they pronounce to you, without fail. Do not deviate right or left from what they tell you.
