They are immune to the trouble common to men; they do not suffer as other men do. ¹ 

Will you stay mad at us forever? Will you remain angry throughout future generations? ¹ 

Have you not rejected us, O God? O God, you do not go into battle with our armies.

When the storm ¹  passes through, the wicked are swept away, ²  but the righteous are an everlasting foundation. ³ 

The grass dries up, the flowers wither, when the wind sent by the Lord ¹  blows on them. Surely humanity ²  is like grass.

Not even Lebanon could supply enough firewood for a sacrifice; ¹  its wild animals would not provide enough burnt offerings. ² 

In light of all this, ¹  how can you still hold back, Lord? How can you be silent and continue to humiliate us?

Aren’t five sparrows sold for two pennies? ¹  Yet not one of them is forgotten before God.

Then the Judeans ¹  replied, ²  “You are not yet fifty years old! ³  Have ⁴  you seen Abraham?”

So neither the one who plants counts for anything, ¹  nor the one who waters, but God who causes the growth.

One ¹  should think about us this way – as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

To the unmarried and widows I say that it is best for them to remain as I am.

Do not give offense to Jews or Greeks or to the church of God,

Our affection for you is not restricted, ¹  but you are restricted in your affections for us.

for the weapons of our warfare are not human weapons, ¹  but are made powerful by God ²  for tearing down strongholds. ³  We tear down arguments ⁴ 

But you, brothers and sisters, ¹  are not in the darkness for the day to overtake you like a thief would.

Hasn’t he treated us like foreigners? He not only sold us, but completely wasted ¹  the money paid for us! ² 

“If ¹  they do not believe you or pay attention to ²  the former sign, then they may ³  believe the latter sign. ⁴
