The earth will tremble and writhe in agony. ¹  For the Lord will carry out his plan. He plans to make the land of Babylonia ²  a wasteland where no one lives. ³ 

The land of Egypt will become a desolate ruin. Then they will know that I am the Lord. Because he said, “The Nile is mine and I made it,”

He deprives the leaders of the earth ¹  of their understanding; ²  he makes them wander in a trackless desert waste. ³ 

O God, when you lead your people into battle, ¹  when you march through the desert, ²  (Selah)

How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and insulted him ¹  in the desert!

In the wilderness they had an insatiable craving ¹  for meat; ²  they challenged God ³  in the desert.

He would pour ¹  contempt upon princes, and he made them wander in a wasteland with no road.

Let the desert and dry region be happy; ¹  let the wilderness ²  rejoice and bloom like a lily!

So Joab and Abishai chased Abner. At sunset they came to the hill of Ammah near Giah on the way to the wilderness of Gibeon.

“Look, I am about to do something new. Now it begins to happen! ¹  Do you not recognize ²  it? Yes, I will make a road in the desert and paths ³  in the wilderness.

The wild animals of the desert honor me, the jackals and ostriches, because I put water in the desert and streams in the wilderness, to quench the thirst of my chosen people,

I will put an end to the sounds of joy and gladness, or the glad celebration of brides and grooms throughout the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem. For the whole land will become a desolate wasteland.”
