In excitement and impatience it consumes the ground; ¹  it cannot stand still ²  when the trumpet is blown.

During the evening, morning, and noontime I will lament and moan, ¹  and he will hear ²  me. ³

There are probably many kinds of languages in the world, and none is without meaning.

Above the sound of the surging water, ¹  and the mighty waves of the sea, the Lord sits enthroned in majesty. ² 

Wild animals will rest there, the ruined ¹  houses will be full of hyenas. ²  Ostriches will live there, wild goats will skip among the ruins. ³ 

The noisy city is full of raucous sounds; the town is filled with revelry. ¹  Your slain were not cut down by the sword; they did not die in battle. ² 

They ¹  lift their voices and shout joyfully; they praise ²  the majesty of the Lord in the west.

You will no longer see a defiant ¹  people whose language you do not comprehend, ²  whose derisive speech you do not understand. ³ 

In unison give a joyful shout, O ruins of Jerusalem! For the Lord consoles his people; he protects ¹  Jerusalem.
