With an east wind you shatter ¹  the large ships. ² 

to the one who struck down great kings, for his loyal love endures,

The earth is broken in pieces, the earth is ripped to shreds, the earth shakes violently. ¹ 

And I will smash them like wine bottles against one another, children and parents alike. ¹  I will not show any pity, mercy, or compassion. Nothing will keep me from destroying them,’ ²  says the Lord.”

ט (Tet) Her city gates have fallen ¹  to the ground; he smashed to bits ²  the bars that lock her gates. ³  Her king and princes were taken into exile; ⁴  there is no more guidance available. ⁵  As for her prophets, they no longer receive ⁶  a vision from the Lord.

They met ¹  Adoni-Bezek at Bezek and fought him. They defeated the Canaanites and Perizzites.

He fought bravely, striking down the Amalekites and delivering Israel from the hand of its enemies. ¹ 

You give me strength for battle; ¹  you make my foes kneel before me. ² 

When all this was over, the Israelites ¹  who were in the cities of Judah went out and smashed the sacred pillars, cut down the Asherah poles, and demolished ²  all the high places and altars throughout Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh. ³  Then all the Israelites returned to their own homes in their cities. ⁴ 

My days have passed, my plans ¹  are shattered, even ²  the desires ³  of my heart.

You destroyed ¹  the sea by your strength; you shattered the heads of the sea monster ²  in the water.

He destroyed their vines and fig trees, and broke the trees throughout their territory.

a day of trumpet blasts ¹  and battle cries. ²  Judgment will fall on ³  the fortified cities and the high corner towers.

The one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, and the one on whom it falls will be crushed.” ¹ 

All the people of the land went and demolished ¹  the temple of Baal. They smashed its altars and idols ²  to bits. ³  They killed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altar. Jehoiada the priest ⁴  then placed guards at the Lord’s temple.

He ordered the altars of the Baals to be torn down, ¹  and broke the incense altars that were above them. He smashed the Asherah poles, idols and images, crushed them up and sprinkled the dust over the tombs of those who had sacrificed to them.

All her carved idols will be smashed to pieces; all her metal cult statues will be destroyed by fire. ¹  I will make a waste heap ²  of all her images. Since ³  she gathered the metal ⁴  as a prostitute collects her wages, the idols will become a prostitute’s wages again.” ⁵ 

As for any clay vessel they fall into, ¹  everything in it ²  will become unclean and you must break it.

They demolished ¹  the sacred pillar of Baal and ²  the temple of Baal; it is used as ³  a latrine ⁴  to this very day.
