“Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and experts in the law. ¹  They will condemn him to death and will turn him over to the Gentiles.

And the gift is not like the one who sinned. ¹  For judgment, resulting from the one transgression, ²  led to condemnation, but ³  the gracious gift from the many failures ⁴  led to justification.

May the Lord be our judge and arbiter. May he see and arbitrate my case and deliver me from your hands!”

For the Lord judges all humanity ¹  with fire and his sword; the Lord will kill many. ² 

I will punish you as an adulteress and murderer deserves. ¹  I will avenge your bloody deeds with furious rage. ² 

From heaven you announced what their punishment would be. ¹  The earth ²  was afraid and silent

Turn back toward us, O Lord! How long must this suffering last? ¹  Have pity on your servants! ² 

Rise up, O judge of the earth! Pay back the proud!

Certainly ¹  my tongue does not frame a word without you, O Lord, being thoroughly aware of it. ² 

The Lord takes his position to judge; he stands up to pass sentence on his people. ¹ 

The Lord decided not to do this. ¹  “It will not happen,” the Lord said.

You snakes, you offspring of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell? ¹ 

What is your verdict?” ¹  They ²  answered, “He is guilty and deserves ³  death.”

You people ¹  judge by outward appearances; ²  I do not judge anyone. ³ 

and concerning judgment, ¹  because ²  the ruler of this world ³  has been condemned. ⁴ 

You will go to the Levitical priests and the judge in office in those days and seek a solution; they will render a verdict.

You must then do as they have determined at that place the Lord chooses. Be careful to do just as you are taught.

Shimei said to the king, “My master the king’s proposal is acceptable. ¹  Your servant will do as you say.” ²  So Shimei lived in Jerusalem for a long time. ³ 

Against you – you above all ¹  – I have sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. So ²  you are just when you confront me; ³  you are right when you condemn me. ⁴ 

A third time he said to them, “Why? What wrong has he done? I have found him guilty ¹  of no crime deserving death. ²  I will therefore flog ³  him and release him.”
