I did not send those prophets. Yet they were in a hurry to give their message. ¹  I did not tell them anything. Yet they prophesied anyway.

“But you made the Nazirites drink wine; ¹  you commanded the prophets, ‘Do not prophesy!’

Two or three prophets should speak and the others should evaluate what is said.

So then I, the Lord who rules over all, ¹  have something to say concerning the prophets of Jerusalem: ²  ‘I will make these prophets eat the bitter food of suffering and drink the poison water of judgment. ³  For the prophets of Jerusalem are the reason ⁴  that ungodliness ⁵  has spread throughout the land.’”

Ahab sent messengers to all the Israelites and had the prophets assemble at Mount Carmel.

Certainly the sovereign Lord does nothing without first revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.

They answered, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, ¹  and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

Others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets from the past.”

They said, ¹  “John the Baptist, others say Elijah, ²  and still others, one of the prophets.”

Woe to you! You build ¹  the tombs of the prophets whom your ancestors ²  killed.

because you have been built ¹  on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, ²  with Christ Jesus himself as ³  the cornerstone. ⁴ 

After God spoke long ago ¹  in various portions ²  and in various ways ³  to our ancestors ⁴  through the prophets,

The ¹  blood of the saints and prophets was found in her, ²  along with the blood ³  of all those who had been killed on the earth.”

Now send out messengers ¹  and assemble all Israel before me at Mount Carmel, as well as the 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah whom Jezebel supports. ² 

When Jezebel was killing ¹  the Lord’s prophets, Obadiah took one hundred prophets and hid them in two caves in two groups of fifty. He also brought them food and water.)

I, the Lord, affirm ¹  that I am opposed to those prophets who are using their own tongues to declare, ‘The Lord declares….’ ² 

“Watch out for false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are voracious wolves. ¹ 

And all the prophets, from Samuel and those who followed him, have spoken about and announced ¹  these days.

Both Judas and Silas, who were prophets themselves, encouraged and strengthened the brothers with a long speech. ¹ 

So I, the Lord, affirm ¹  that I am opposed to those prophets who steal messages from one another that they claim are from me. ²
