Then the disciples came ¹  to Jesus privately and said, “Why couldn’t we cast it out?”

He did not speak to them without a parable. But privately he explained everything to his own disciples.

Then ¹  Jesus ²  turned ³  to his ⁴  disciples and said privately, “Blessed ⁵  are the eyes that see what you see!

The one who speaks in a tongue builds himself up, ¹  but the one who prophesies builds up the church.

Each of you should be concerned ¹  not only ²  about your own interests, but about the interests of others as well. ³ 

Now, to show my commitment to the temple of my God, I donate my personal treasure of gold and silver to the temple of my God, in addition to all that I have already supplied for this holy temple.

You must circumcise the flesh of your foreskins. This will be a reminder ¹  of the covenant between me and you.

Azariah son of Nathan was supervisor of ¹  the district governors. Zabud son of Nathan was a priest and adviser to ²  the king.

Your splendor ¹  has been brought down to Sheol, as well as the sound of your stringed instruments. ²  You lie on a bed of maggots, with a blanket of worms over you. ³

Then Herod ¹  privately summoned the wise men and determined from them when the star had appeared.

But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then Jesus ¹  himself also went up, not openly but in secret.

And when she had said this, Martha ¹  went and called her sister Mary, saying privately, ²  “The Teacher is here and is asking for you.” ³ 

For the one speaking in a tongue does not speak to people but to God, for no one understands; he is speaking mysteries by the Spirit. ¹ 

They set a place for him, a separate place for his brothers, ¹  and another for the Egyptians who were eating with him. (The Egyptians are not able to eat with Hebrews, for the Egyptians think it is disgusting ²  to do so.) ³
