Moreover, the fat of an animal that has died of natural causes ¹  and the fat of an animal torn by beasts may be used for any other purpose, ²  but you must certainly never eat it.

(I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh.) ¹  For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, ¹  we are not children of the slave woman but of the free woman.

Like snow in summer or rain in harvest, so honor ¹  is not fitting for a fool. ² 

For whenever someone says, “I am with Paul,” or “I am with Apollos,” are you not merely human? ¹ 

Does not nature ¹  itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace for him,

“‘Any person ¹  who eats an animal that has died of natural causes ²  or an animal torn by beasts, whether a native citizen or a foreigner, ³  must wash his clothes, bathe in water, and be unclean until evening; then he becomes clean.

Then a ceremonially clean person must take hyssop, dip it in the water, and sprinkle it on the tent, on all its furnishings, and on the people who were there, or on the one who touched a bone, or one killed, or one who died, or a grave.

“‘Now if an animal ¹  that you may eat dies, ²  whoever touches its carcass will be unclean until the evening.

your cattle, and the wild animals that are in your land – all its produce will be for you ¹  to eat.

Because that year is a jubilee, it will be holy to you – you may eat its produce ¹  from the field.

Then you must build an altar there to the Lord your God, an altar of stones – do not use an iron tool on them.

Why do you complain about your injuries, that your pain is incurable? I have done all this to you because your wickedness is so great and your sin is so much.

For whenever the Gentiles, ¹  who do not have the law, do by nature ²  the things required by the law, ³  these who do not have the law are a law to themselves.

But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, but ¹  the Spirit is your life ²  because of righteousness.

For I could wish ¹  that I myself were accursed – cut off from Christ – for the sake of my people, ²  my fellow countrymen, ³ 

To them belong the patriarchs, ¹  and from them, ²  by human descent, ³  came the Christ, ⁴  who is God over all, blessed forever! ⁵  Amen.

This means ¹  it is not the children of the flesh ²  who are the children of God; rather, the children of promise are counted as descendants.

and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they were all drinking from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.

Now this is what I am saying, brothers and sisters: ¹  Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
