A king’s wrath is like ¹  the roar of a lion, ²  but his favor is like dew on the grass. ³ 

Like ¹  a roaring lion or a roving bear, ²  so is a wicked ruler over a poor people. ³ 

I will be like a lion to Ephraim, like a young lion to the house of Judah. I myself will tear them to pieces, then I will carry them off, and no one will be able to rescue them!

“Do you hunt prey for the lioness, and satisfy the appetite ¹  of the lions,

They ¹  open their mouths to devour me ²  like a roaring lion that rips its prey. ³ 

The wicked person flees when there is no one pursuing, ¹  but the righteous person is as confident ²  as a lion.

“‘When she realized that she waited in vain, her hope was lost. She took another of her cubs ¹  and made him a young lion.

But whoever is among ¹  the living ²  has hope; a live dog is better than a dead lion.

The people I call my own ¹  have turned on me like a lion ²  in the forest. They have roared defiantly ³  at me. So I will treat them as though I hate them. ⁴ 

She reared one of her cubs; he became a young lion. He learned to tear prey; he devoured people. ¹ 

He will roar like a lion, and they will follow the Lord; when he roars, his children will come trembling ¹  from the west.

For a nation ¹  has invaded ²  our ³  land. There are so many of them they are too numerous to count. ⁴  Their teeth are like those ⁵  of a lion; they tear apart their prey like a lioness. ⁶ 

Then ¹  he shouted in a loud voice like a lion roaring, and when he shouted, the seven thunders sounded their voices.

Rescue me from the mouth of the lion, ¹  and from the horns of the wild oxen! ²  You have answered me! ³ 

They crouch and lie down like a lion, and as a lioness, ¹  who can stir him? Blessed is the one who blesses you, and cursed is the one who curses you!’”

The king’s terrifying anger ¹  is like the roar of a lion; whoever provokes him ²  sins against himself. ³ 

I cry out ¹  until morning; like a lion he shatters all my bones; you turn day into night and end my life. ² 

“It did no good for me to punish your people. They did not respond to such correction. You slaughtered your prophets like a voracious lion.” ¹ 

He walked about among the lions; he became a young lion. He learned to tear prey; he devoured people.

Be sober and alert. Your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion, ¹  is on the prowl looking for someone ²  to devour.
