Dark clouds surround him; equity and justice are the foundation of his throne. ¹ 

A psalm of David. I will sing about loyalty and justice! To you, O Lord, I will sing praises!

A crooked witness ¹  scorns justice, and the mouth of the wicked devours ²  iniquity.

Doing ¹  justice brings ²  joy to the righteous and terror ³  to those who do evil.

Evil people ¹  do not understand justice, ²  but those who seek the Lord ³  understand it all.

Many people seek the face ¹  of a ruler, but it is from the Lord that one receives justice. ² 

You must pursue justice alone ¹  so that you may live and inherit the land the Lord your God is giving you.

Justice is driven back; godliness ¹  stands far off. Indeed, ²  honesty stumbles in the city square and morality is not even able to enter.

“If ¹  I cry out, ²  ‘Violence!’ ³  I receive no answer; ⁴  I cry for help, but there is no justice.

The Lord is exalted, ¹  indeed, ²  he lives in heaven; ³  he fills Zion with justice and fairness.

The godly speak wise words and promote justice. ¹ 

Then he will judge ¹  your people fairly, and your oppressed ones ²  equitably.

Defend the cause of the poor and the fatherless! ¹  Vindicate the oppressed and suffering!

to guard ¹  the paths of the righteous ²  and to protect ³  the way of his pious ones. ⁴ 

Then you will understand ¹  righteousness and justice and equity – every ²  good ³  way. ⁴

Do you really think ¹  that one who hates justice can govern? ²  And will you declare guilty the supremely righteous ³  One,

The Lord promotes ¹  equity and justice; the Lord’s faithfulness extends throughout the earth. ²
