Pay attention, Lord, and hear! Open your eyes, Lord, and observe! Listen to this entire message Sennacherib sent and how he taunts the living God! ¹ 

For whenever I prophesy, ¹  I must cry out, ²  “Violence and destruction are coming!” ³  This message from the Lord ⁴  has made me an object of continual insults and derision.

These ten times ¹  you have been reproaching me; ²  you are not ashamed to attack me! ³ 

When ¹  I hear a reproof that dishonors ²  me, then my understanding ³  prompts me to answer. ⁴ 

But I ¹  am a worm, ²  not a man; ³  people insult me and despise me. ⁴ 

You made us ¹  an object of disdain to our neighbors; those who live on our borders taunt and insult us. ² 

For they harass ¹  the one whom you discipline; ²  they spread the news about the suffering of those whom you punish. ³ 

We have become an object of disdain to our neighbors; those who live on our borders taunt and insult us. ¹ 

You have made our neighbors dislike us, ¹  and our enemies insult us.

Your enemies, O Lord, hurl insults; they insult your chosen king as they dog his footsteps. ¹ 

For he will be handed over ¹  to the Gentiles; he will be mocked, ²  mistreated, ³  and spat on. ⁴ 

At times you were publicly exposed to abuse and afflictions, and at other times you came to share with others who were treated in that way.

Yet these men, ¹  as a result of their dreams, ²  defile the flesh, reject authority, ³  and insult ⁴  the glorious ones. ⁵

When he was maligned, he ¹  did not answer back; when he suffered, he threatened ²  no retaliation, ³  but committed himself to God ⁴  who judges justly.
