But the day of the Lord will come like a thief; when it comes, ¹  the heavens will disappear ²  with a horrific noise, ³  and the celestial bodies ⁴  will melt away ⁵  in a blaze, ⁶  and the earth and every deed done on it ⁷  will be laid bare. ⁸ 

Their ¹  corpses will lie in the street ²  of the great city that is symbolically ³  called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was also crucified.

The underworld ¹  is naked before God; ²  the place of destruction lies uncovered. ³ 

For she leaves ¹  her eggs on the ground, and lets them be warmed on the soil.

The one who tells the truth ¹  will endure forever, but the one who lies ²  will last only for a moment. ³ 

So the Lord says concerning King Jehoiakim of Judah, “None of his line will occupy the throne of David. ¹  His dead body will be thrown out to be exposed to scorching heat by day and frost by night. ²

You will probably ask yourself, ¹  ‘Why have these things happened to me? Why have I been treated like a disgraced adulteress whose skirt has been torn off and her limbs exposed?’ ²  It is because you have sinned so much. ³

Your own mouth condemns ¹  you, not I; your own lips testify against ²  you.

They are soaked by mountain rains and huddle ¹  in the rocks because they lack shelter.

“May my enemy be like the wicked, ¹  my adversary ²  like the unrighteous. ³ 

The one who conducts himself ¹  in integrity ²  will live ³  securely, but the one who behaves perversely ⁴  will be found out.

So I will pull your skirt up over your face and expose you to shame like a disgraced adulteress! ¹ 

you built yourself a chamber ¹  and put up a pavilion ²  in every public square.

Nothing is hidden ¹  that will not be revealed, ²  and nothing is secret that will not be made known.

For since he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.
