and her father hears of her vow or the obligation to which she has pledged herself, and her father remains silent about her, ¹  then all her vows will stand, ²  and every obligation to which she has pledged herself will stand.

Am I now trying to gain the approval of people, ¹  or of God? Or am I trying to please people? ²  If I were still trying to please ³  people, ⁴  I would not be a slave ⁵  of Christ!

From Paul, ¹  a slave ²  of God and apostle of Jesus Christ, to further the faith ³  of God’s chosen ones and the knowledge of the truth that is in keeping with godliness,

If she made the vow in her husband’s house or put herself under obligation with an oath,

The one who forgives ¹  an offense seeks ²  love, but whoever repeats a matter separates close friends. ³ 

A relative ¹  offended ²  is harder to reach than ³  a strong city, and disputes are like the barred gates ⁴  of a fortified citadel. ⁵ 

So ¹  he sent another slave to them again. This one they struck on the head and treated outrageously.

A centurion ¹  there ²  had a slave ³  who was highly regarded, ⁴  but who was sick and at the point of death.

So ¹  when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave ²  well.

Then ¹  one of them ²  struck the high priest’s slave, ³  cutting off his right ear.

For we do not proclaim ¹  ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your slaves ²  for Jesus’ sake.

So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if you are ¹  a son, then you are also an heir through God. ² 

because you know that each person, whether slave or free, if he does something good, this ¹  will be rewarded by the Lord.

but emptied himself by taking on the form of a slave, ¹  by looking like other men, ²  and by sharing in human nature. ³ 

Slaves ¹  are to be subject to their own masters in everything, ²  to do what is wanted and not talk back,

“If a young ¹  woman who is still living ²  in her father’s house makes a vow to the Lord or places herself under an obligation,

In fact, I brought you up from the land of Egypt, I delivered you from that place of slavery. I sent Moses, Aaron, and Miriam to lead you. ¹
