Better is a dry crust of bread ¹  where there is quietness ²  than a house full of feasting with strife. ³ 

What is desirable ¹  for a person is to show loyal love, ²  and a poor person is better than a liar. ³ 

It is better to live ¹  in a desert land ²  than with a quarrelsome and easily-provoked ³  woman.

It is better to live on a corner of the housetop than in a house in company with a quarrelsome wife. ¹ 

A poor person ¹  who walks in his integrity is better than one who is perverse in his ways ²  even though ³  he is rich. ⁴ 

Better is one handful with some rest than two hands full of toil ¹  and chasing the wind.

Two people are better than one, because they can reap ¹  more benefit ²  from their labor.

For God had provided something better for us, so that they would be made perfect together with us. ¹ 

For it is better to suffer for doing good, if God wills it, ¹  than for doing evil.

Better to be slow to anger ¹  than to be a mighty warrior, and one who controls his temper ²  is better than ³  one who captures a city. ⁴ 

How much better it is to acquire ¹  wisdom than gold; to acquire understanding is more desirable ²  than silver.

For wisdom is better than rubies, and desirable things cannot be compared ¹  to her.

A good name ¹  is to be chosen ²  rather than great wealth, good favor ³  more than silver or gold.

I realized that wisdom is preferable to folly, ¹  just as light is preferable to darkness:

It is better to live on a corner of the housetop ¹  than in a house in company ²  with a quarrelsome wife. ³ 

for it is better for him ¹  to say to you, “Come up here,” ²  than to put you lower ³  before a prince, whom your eyes have seen. ⁴ 

A poor but wise youth is better than an old and foolish king who no longer knows how to receive advice.

But whoever is among ¹  the living ²  has hope; a live dog is better than a dead lion.

So I concluded that wisdom is better than might, ¹  but a poor man’s wisdom is despised; no one ever listens ²  to his advice. ³
