I will scatter them among nations that neither they nor their ancestors ¹  have known anything about. I will send people chasing after them with swords ²  until I have destroyed them.’” ³ 

He called out loudly ¹  as follows: ²  ‘Chop down the tree and lop off its branches! Strip off its foliage and scatter its fruit! Let the animals flee from under it and the birds from its branches!

“I said, ‘I want to cut them in pieces. ¹  I want to make people forget they ever existed.

Once he has leveled its surface, does he not scatter the seed of the caraway plant, sow the seed of the cumin plant, and plant the wheat, barley, and grain in their designated places? ¹

He loads the clouds with moisture; ¹  he scatters his lightning through the clouds.

Though I scatter ¹  them among the nations, they will remember in far-off places – they and their children will sprout forth and return.
