So the whole community took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, ¹  just as the Lord commanded Moses.

“Get away from this community, so that I can consume them in an instant!” But they threw themselves down with their faces to the ground. ¹ 

So Moses did as the Lord commanded him; he took Joshua and set ¹  him before Eleazar the priest and before the whole community.

And they must stand as your towns of refuge from the avenger in order that the killer may not die until he has stood trial before the community.

but all the leaders told the whole community, “We swore an oath to them in the name of ¹  the Lord God of Israel. So now we can’t hurt ²  them!

The leaders then added, ¹  “Let them live.” So they became ²  woodcutters and water carriers for the whole community, as the leaders had decided. ³ 

Then the Israelites dispersed from there to their respective tribal and clan territories. Each went from there to his own property. ¹ 

At that time ¹  they sacrificed to the Lord some of the plunder they had brought back, including 700 head of cattle and 7,000 sheep. ² 

Yes, ¹  wild dogs surround me – a gang of evil men crowd around me; like a lion they pin my hands and feet. ²

“Take the staff and assemble the community, you and Aaron your brother, and then speak ¹  to the rock before their eyes. It will pour forth ²  its water, and you will bring water out of the rock for them, and so you will give the community and their beasts water to drink.”

Just then ¹  one of the Israelites came and brought to his brothers ²  a Midianite woman in the plain view of Moses and of ³  the whole community of the Israelites, while they ⁴  were weeping at the entrance of the tent of meeting.
