“As soon as the ear heard these things, ¹  it blessed me, ²  and when the eye saw them, it bore witness to me,

I was a father ¹  to the needy, and I investigated the case of the person I did not know;

You walked through the sea; ¹  you passed through the surging waters, ²  but left no footprints. ³ 

They were not yet filled up, ¹  their food was still in their mouths,

He was driven from human society, his mind ¹  was changed to that of an animal, he lived ²  with the wild donkeys, he was fed grass like oxen, and his body became damp with the dew of the sky, until he came to understand that the most high God rules over human kingdoms, and he appoints over them whomever he wishes.

But when Jesus discerned their innermost thoughts, ¹  he took a child, had him stand by ²  his side,

He was in the world, and the world was created ¹  by him, but ²  the world did not recognize ³  him.

Then Jesus, because he knew everything that was going to happen to him, ¹  came and asked them, “Who are you looking for?” ² 

Great ¹  fear gripped ²  the whole church ³  and all who heard about these things.

When the brothers found out about this, they brought him down to Caesarea ¹  and sent him away to Tarsus.

Since I was confident that you would obey, I wrote to you, because I knew that you would do even more than ¹  what I am asking you to do.

The men refused to listen to him, so the Levite ¹  grabbed his concubine and made her go outside. ²  They raped ³  her and abused her all night long until morning. They let her go at dawn.

Was it just today that I began to inquire of God on his behalf? Far be it from me! The king should not accuse ¹  his servant or any of my father’s house. For your servant is not aware of all this – not in whole or in part!” ² 

Someone went out to the field to gather some herbs and found a wild vine. ¹  He picked some of its fruit, ²  enough to fill up the fold of his robe. He came back, cut it up, and threw the slices ³  into the stew pot, not knowing they were harmful. ⁴ 

Huram sent him ships and some of his sailors, men who were well acquainted with the sea. They sailed with Solomon’s men to Ophir, ¹  and took from there 450 talents ²  of gold, which they brought back to King Solomon.

If you say, “But we did not know about this,” does not the one who evaluates ¹  hearts consider? Does not the one who guards your life know? Will he not repay each person according to his deeds? ² 

I will do so because these people ¹  have rejected me and have defiled ²  this place. They have offered sacrifices in it to other gods which neither they nor their ancestors ³  nor the kings of Judah knew anything about. They have filled it with the blood of innocent children. ⁴ 

Then Jacob woke up ¹  and thought, ²  “Surely the Lord is in this place, but I did not realize it!”

He recognized it and exclaimed, “It is my son’s tunic! A wild animal has eaten him! ¹  Joseph has surely been torn to pieces!”

His wife then took the covering and spread it over the top of the well and scattered some grain over it. No one was aware of what she had done.
