The light ¹  of the righteous shines brightly, ²  but the lamp ³  of the wicked goes out. ⁴ 

She also gets up ¹  while it is still night, and provides food ²  for her household and a portion ³  to her female servants.

I realized that wisdom is preferable to folly, ¹  just as light is preferable to darkness:

They howl in the streets because of what happened to the wine; ¹  all joy turns to sorrow; ²  celebrations disappear from the earth. ³ 

The human mind is more deceitful than anything else. It is incurably bad. ¹  Who can understand it?

Because of this, our hearts are sick; ¹  because of these things, we can hardly see ²  through our tears. ³ 

And throw that worthless slave into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

an educator of the senseless, a teacher of little children, because you have in the law the essential features of knowledge and of the truth –

let their eyes be darkened so that they may not see, and make their backs bend continually.” ¹ 

And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is useless; you are still in your sins.

for you were at one time darkness, but now you are ¹  light in the Lord. Walk as children of the light –

Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather ¹  expose them. ² 

that is, the mystery that has been kept hidden from ages and generations, but has now been revealed to his saints.

For you all are sons of the light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of the darkness.

So that day Laban ¹  removed the male goats that were streaked or spotted, all the female goats that were speckled or spotted (all that had any white on them), and all the dark-colored lambs, and put them in the care ²  of his sons.

(But there is one who made the constellations Pleiades and Orion; he can turn the darkness into morning and daylight ¹  into night. He summons the water of the seas and pours it out on the earth’s surface. The Lord is his name!

Now ¹  the earth ²  was without shape and empty, ³  and darkness ⁴  was over the surface of the watery deep, ⁵  but the Spirit of God ⁶  was moving ⁷  over the surface ⁸  of the water. ⁹ 

In the evening he brought his daughter Leah ¹  to Jacob, ²  and Jacob ³  had marital relations with her. ⁴ 

“What have you done?” Laban demanded of Jacob. “You’ve deceived me ¹  and carried away my daughters as if they were captives of war! ² 

So Moses extended his hand toward heaven, and there was absolute darkness ¹  throughout the land of Egypt for three days. ²
