  “It must be settled tonight, Tomorrow may be too late”; The angel of death may come, And seal forever my fate. It must be settled to-night, I can no longer wait, Peace with my God I now must have, Tomorrow may be too late. A burden weighs my soul I can no longer bear; Unless removed this night, ’Twill sink me into despair. It must be settled to-night, I can no longer wait, Peace with my God I now must have, Tomorrow may be too late. I cannot rest till peace Enfolds me from above, Till my Redeemer speaks to me Assurance of His love. It must be settled to-night, I can no longer wait, Peace with my God I now must have, Tomorrow may be too late. Oh, now I know ’tis done! My peace is made with God; My pardon’s found in Jesus’ Name, Thro’ faith in Jesus’ blood. Oh, now I know ’tis done! Sweet joy pervades my soul; Peace with my God I now have found; His blood hath made me whole.

  Jesus, the calm that fills my breast, No other heart than Thine can give; This peace unstirred, this joy of rest, None but Thy loved ones can receive. My weary soul has found a charm That turns to blessedness my woe; Within the shelter of Thine arm, I rest secure from storm and foe. In desert wastes I feel no dread, Fearless I walk the trackless sea; I care not where my way is led, Since all my life is life with Thee. O Christ, through changeful years my Guide My Comforter in sorrow’s night, My Friend, when friendless—still abide, My Lord, my Counselor, my Light. My time, my powers, I give to Thee; My inmost soul ’tis Thine to move; I wait for Thy eternity, I wait, in peace, in praise, in love.

  O glorious hope of perfect love! It lifts me up to things above; It bears on eagles’ wings. It gives my ravished soul a taste, And makes me for some moments feast With Jesus’ priests and kings, With Jesus’ priests and kings. Rejoicing now in earnest hope, I stand, and from the mountain top See all the lands below. Rivers of milk and honey rise, And all the fruits of paradise In endless plenty grow, In endless plenty grow. A land of corn, and wine, and oil; Favored with God’s peculiar smile, With ev’ry blessing blest; There dwells the Lord our Righteousness, And keeps His own in perfect peace, And everlasting rest, And everlasting rest. Oh, that I might at once go up; No more on this side of Jordan stop, But now the land possess; This moment end my legal years, Sorrows and sins, and doubts and fears, A howling wilderness, A howling wilderness!

  Thou grace divine, encircling all, A soundless, shoreless sea! Wherein at last our souls must fall O love of God most free! And though we turn us from thy face, And wander wide and long, Thou hold’st us still in thine embrace, O love of God most strong! The saddened heart, the restless soul, The toil worn frame and mind, Alike confess thy sweet control, O love of God most kind!   Being of beings, God of love; To Thee our hearts we raise; Thy all sustaining power we prove, And gladly sing Thy praise. Thine, wholly Thine, we pant to be; Our sacrifice receive; Made, and preserved, and saved by Thee, To Thee ourselves we give. Heav’nward our every wish aspires, For all Thy mercy’s store; The sole return Thy love requires, Is that we ask for more. For more we ask: we open then Our hearts to embrace Thy will; Turn and revive us, Lord, again, With all Thy fullness fill. Come, Holy Ghost, the Savior’s love Shed in our hearts abroad; So shall we ever live, and move, And be, with Christ, in God.

  Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove, With all Thy quick’ning powers; Kindle a flame of sacred love In these cold hearts of ours. Look how we grovel here below, Fond of these trifling toys; Our souls can neither fly nor go To reach eternal joys. In vain we tune our formal songs, In vain we strive to rise; Hosannas languish on our tongues, And our devotion dies. Dear Lord! and shall we ever live At this poor dying rate?   I am so glad that our Father in Heav’n Tells of His love in the Book He has giv’n; Wonderful things in the Bible I see, This is the dearest, that Jesus loves me.
