Romans 5:1-21
-
[Rom 5:1] It Must Be Settled Tonight
“It must be settled tonight,
Tomorrow may be too late”;
The angel of death may come,
And seal forever my fate.
It must be settled to-night,
I can no longer wait,
Peace with my God I now must have,
Tomorrow may be too late.A burden weighs my soul
I can no longer bear;
Unless removed this night,
’Twill sink me into despair.
It must be settled to-night,
I can no longer wait,
Peace with my God I now must have,
Tomorrow may be too late.I cannot rest till peace
Enfolds me from above,
Till my Redeemer speaks to me
Assurance of His love.
It must be settled to-night,
I can no longer wait,
Peace with my God I now must have,
Tomorrow may be too late.Oh, now I know ’tis done!
My peace is made with God;
My pardon’s found in Jesus’ Name,
Thro’ faith in Jesus’ blood.
Oh, now I know ’tis done!
Sweet joy pervades my soul;
Peace with my God I now have found;
His blood hath made me whole.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:1] Jesus, The Calm That Fills My Breast
Jesus, the calm that fills my breast,
No other heart than Thine can give;
This peace unstirred, this joy of rest,
None but Thy loved ones can receive.My weary soul has found a charm
That turns to blessedness my woe;
Within the shelter of Thine arm,
I rest secure from storm and foe.In desert wastes I feel no dread,
Fearless I walk the trackless sea;
I care not where my way is led,
Since all my life is life with Thee.O Christ, through changeful years my Guide
My Comforter in sorrow’s night,
My Friend, when friendless—still abide,
My Lord, my Counselor, my Light.My time, my powers, I give to Thee;
My inmost soul ’tis Thine to move;
I wait for Thy eternity,
I wait, in peace, in praise, in love.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:1] Father In Heaven, In Thy Love Abounding
Father in Heaven, in Thy love abounding,
Hear these Thy children through the world resounding,
Lord, in Thy praises thanks for peace abiding,
Ever abiding.Filled be our hearts with peace beyond comparing,
Peace in Thy world, joy to all heart’s despairing,
Firm is our trust in Thee for peace enduring,
Ever enduring.God of our fathers, strengthen every nation,
In Thy great peace where only is salvation,
So may the world its future spread before Thee
Thus to adore Thee.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:2] O Glorious Hope Of Perfect Love
O glorious hope of perfect love!
It lifts me up to things above;
It bears on eagles’ wings.
It gives my ravished soul a taste,
And makes me for some moments feast
With Jesus’ priests and kings,
With Jesus’ priests and kings.Rejoicing now in earnest hope,
I stand, and from the mountain top
See all the lands below.
Rivers of milk and honey rise,
And all the fruits of paradise
In endless plenty grow,
In endless plenty grow.A land of corn, and wine, and oil;
Favored with God’s peculiar smile,
With ev’ry blessing blest;
There dwells the Lord our Righteousness,
And keeps His own in perfect peace,
And everlasting rest,
And everlasting rest.Oh, that I might at once go up;
No more on this side of Jordan stop,
But now the land possess;
This moment end my legal years,
Sorrows and sins, and doubts and fears,
A howling wilderness,
A howling wilderness!Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:2] Thou Grace Divine, Encircling All
Thou grace divine, encircling all,
A soundless, shoreless sea!
Wherein at last our souls must fall
O love of God most free!And though we turn us from thy face,
And wander wide and long,
Thou hold’st us still in thine embrace,
O love of God most strong!The saddened heart, the restless soul,
The toil worn frame and mind,
Alike confess thy sweet control,
O love of God most kind!And filled and quickened by thy breath,
Our souls are strong and free,
To rise o’er sin and fear and death,
O love of God, to thee!Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:5] Being Of Beings
Being of beings, God of love;
To Thee our hearts we raise;
Thy all sustaining power we prove,
And gladly sing Thy praise.Thine, wholly Thine, we pant to be;
Our sacrifice receive;
Made, and preserved, and saved by Thee,
To Thee ourselves we give.Heav’nward our every wish aspires,
For all Thy mercy’s store;
The sole return Thy love requires,
Is that we ask for more.For more we ask: we open then
Our hearts to embrace Thy will;
Turn and revive us, Lord, again,
With all Thy fullness fill.Come, Holy Ghost, the Savior’s love
Shed in our hearts abroad;
So shall we ever live, and move,
And be, with Christ, in God.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:5] Come, Holy Spirit, Heavenly Dove
Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove,
With all Thy quick’ning powers;
Kindle a flame of sacred love
In these cold hearts of ours.Look how we grovel here below,
Fond of these trifling toys;
Our souls can neither fly nor go
To reach eternal joys.In vain we tune our formal songs,
In vain we strive to rise;
Hosannas languish on our tongues,
And our devotion dies.Dear Lord! and shall we ever live
At this poor dying rate?
Our love so faint, so cold to Thee,
And Thine to us so great!Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove,
With all Thy quick’ning powers;
Come, shed abroad the Savior’s love
And that shall kindle ours.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:5] Jesus Loves Even Me
I am so glad that our Father in Heav’n
Tells of His love in the Book He has giv’n;
Wonderful things in the Bible I see,
This is the dearest, that Jesus loves me.Refrain
I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me.
I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
Jesus loves even me.Though I forget Him, and wander away,
Still He doth love me wherever I stray;
Back to His dear loving arms I do flee,
When I remember that Jesus loves me.Refrain
Oh, if there’s only one song I can sing,
When in His beauty I see the great King,
This shall my song through eternity be,
“Oh, what a wonder that Jesus loves me!”Refrain
Jesus loves me, and I know I love Him;
Love brought Him down my poor soul to redeem;
Yes, it was love made Him die on the tree;
Oh, I am certain that Jesus loves me!Refrain
If one should ask of me, how can I tell?
Glory to Jesus, I know very well!
God’s Holy Spirit with mine doth agree,
Constantly witnessing Jesus loves me.Refrain
In this assurance I find sweetest rest,
Trusting in Jesus, I know I am blessed;
Satan, dismayed, from my soul now doth flee,
When I just tell him that Jesus loves me.Refrain

[Rom 5:5] O Love Of God Most Full
O love of God most full,
O love of God most free,
Come, warm my heart, come fill my soul,
Come, lead me unto Thee!Warm as the glowing sun,
So shines Thy love on me;
It wraps me ’round with kindly care,
It draws me unto Thee!The wildest sea is calm,
The tempest brings no fear,
The darkest night is full of light
Because Thy love is near.I triumph over sin,
I put temptation down;
The love of God doth give me strength
To win the victor’s crown.O love of God most full,
O love of God most free,
Thou warm’st my heart,
Thou fill’st my soul,
With might Thou strength’nest me.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:6] Let Songs Of Praises Fill The Sky
Let songs of praises fill the sky:
Christ, our ascended Lord,
Sends down His Spirit from on high
According to His Word.
All hail the day of Pentecost,
The coming of the Holy Ghost!The Spirit by His heav’nly breath
Creates new life within;
He quickens sinners from the death
Of trespasses and sin.
All hail the day of Pentecost,
The coming of the Holy Ghost!The things of Christ the Spirit takes
And shows them unto men;
The fallen soul His temple makes,
God’s image stamps again.
All hail the day of Pentecost,
The coming of the Holy Ghost!Come, Holy Spirit, from above
With Thy celestial fire;
Come and with flames of zeal and love
Our hearts and tongues inspire.
Be this our day of Pentecost,
The coming of the Holy Ghost!Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:8] Gospel Echoes
The Gospel message sent—
Is echoed back again,
From lips in prayer and praise,
And this the sweet refrain:
That Jesus died for me—
Dear Lamb of Calvary.The echo from each heart,
In answer to the call—
Is “Here am I, O Lord—
Lo! at Thy feet I fall;
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
I trust alone in Thee.”Its echoing strains are heard
From palace and from cot—
From lips of age and youth—
His blood can cleanse each spot;
Dear Lamb of Calvary,
I come, I come to Thee.Oh, let the Gospel sound
In all the land abroad,
And send the echo round,
In honor of our Lord—
The Lamb of Calvary,
Has died to ransom Thee.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:8] He Just Put Himself In My Place
Shall I tell you what brought me to Jesus,
What caused me to seek His blessèd face?
It was this, that, to save and to cleanse me,
He just put Himself in my place.Refrain
He just put Himself in my place (O bless His Name!)
He just put Himself in my place (O bless His Name!)
This is the Gospel story,
To Jesus the glory,
He just put Himself in my place.O, He felt all my load in the garden,
My guilt He did carry on the tree;
I was lost, and condemned unto judgment,
But my Lord Himself died for me.Refrain
Soon He’s coming again from the glory,
The prophets of God on this agree;
And till then this to others I’m telling,
That for them He died as for me.Refrain

[Rom 5:8] How Bitter-sweet The Mystery
How bitter-sweet the mystery:
Christ Jesus crucified.
Yet, He is not the guilty one,
No sin, though still He dies.Hung on a cross of rugged wood,
Received He from God’s hand,
The penalty, the wage of sin,
Deserved by wicked man.O! Even more hope we shall find
Beyond the death He died.
Consider this, that from the grave
He rose and is alive.For to this end Christ Jesus died
Was raised and lives again;
That He might be the Lord of both
The dead and the living!What glorious day we long await
When Christ His church shall raise.
Since then for all eternity
The Risen One we’ll praise.God demonstrates His love in this:
While we were yet in sin,
Christ Jesus died on our behalf.
We’re saved from wrath through Him!Now sinner, hear! To His grace turn!
Repent, and be forgiv’n—
United with Him in His death;
Alive with Him now ris’n.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:8] I Have A Savior
I have a Savior, He died for me
In cruel anguish on Calv’ry’s tree.
I do not merit such love divine,
Only God’s mercy makes Jesus mine.Refrain
Jesus, my Savior, I come to Thee
In full surrender Thine own to be.I have a Keeper, He now prevails,
I fear no evil whate’er assails.
His arms enfold me, safe and secure,
In His blest keeping vict’ry is sure.Refrain
I have a Master, He bids me go
Rescue lost sinners from sin and woe.
I love to serve Him, this Master true,
Now I am willing His will to do.Refrain

[Rom 5:8] I Love To Think Of Jesus
I love to think of Jesus, who else could it be,
Who could come down from Heav’n to save a soul like me?
To think of Him does not repay the debt I owe,
I’ll do my best my gratitude to show.Refrain
I love to think of Jesus and His love for me;
My soul is lost in wonder that such love could be;
I’ve known the love of mother,
Of sister, friend and brother,
Like Jesus there’s no other,
He’s more than all to me.I love to think that He has given me a part
In pardon that He purchased with a broken heart;
And oft my eyes are filled with tears as I recall
What He has done for me, and for us all.Refrain
I love to think of Jesus when I am distressed,
To think upon His promise brings a blissful rest;
In sorrow, pain and anguish He is near I know,
It is no wonder that I love Him so.Refrain
I love to think of Him when tears of sorrow fall,
To know that He has suffered and He knows it all;
It gives me strength to bear my burden nor complain,
I never yet have called to Him in vain.Refrain

[Rom 5:8] O Love Divine, What Hast Thou Done
O Love divine, what hast thou done!
The immortal God hath died for me!
The Father’s co-eternal Son
Bore all my sins upon the tree.
Th’immortal God for me hath died:
My Lord, my Love, is crucified!Is crucified for me and you,
To bring us rebels back to God.
Believe, believe the record true,
Ye all are bought with Jesus’ blood.
Pardon for all flows from His side:
My Lord, my Love, is crucified!Behold and love, ye that pass by,
The bleeding Prince of life and peace!
Come, sinners, see your Savior die,
And say, “Was ever grief like His?”
Come, feel with me His blood applied:
My Lord, my Love, is crucified!Then let us sit beneath His cross,
And gladly catch the healing stream:
All things for Him account but loss,
And give up all our hearts to Him:
Of nothing think or speak beside,
My Lord, my Love, is crucified!Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:8] Savior, Thy Dying Love
Savior, Thy dying love Thou gavest me.
Nor should I aught withhold, dear Lord, from Thee.
In love my soul would bow, my heart fulfill its vow,
Some offering bring Thee now, something for Thee.O’er the blest mercy seat, pleading for me,
My feeble faith looks up, Jesus, to Thee.
Help me the cross to bear, Thy wondrous love declare,
Some song to raise, or prayer, something for Thee.Give me a faithful heart, likeness to Thee.
That each departing day henceforth may see
Some work of love begun, some deed of kindness done,
Some wanderer sought and won, something for Thee.All that I am and have, Thy gifts so free,
In joy, in grief, through life, O Lord, for Thee!
And when Thy face I see, my ransomed soul shall be
Through all eternity, something for Thee.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:8] Take Me As I Am
Jesus, my Lord, to Thee I cry;
Unless Thou help me I must die;
Oh, bring Thy free salvation nigh,
And take me as I am.Refrain
And take me as I am,
And take me as I am,
My only plea—Christ died for me!
Oh, take me as I am.Helpless I am, and full of guilt;
But yet for me Thy blood was spilt,
And Thou canst make me what Thou wilt,
And take me as I am.Refrain
No preparation can I make,
My best resolves I only break,
Yet save me for Thine own Name’s sake,
And take me as I am.Refrain
Behold me, Savior, at Thy feet,
Deal with me as Thou seest meet;
Thy work begin, Thy work complete,
And take me as I am.Refrain

[Rom 5:8] Thy Works, Not Mine, O Christ
Thy works, not mine, O Christ, speak gladness to this heart;
They tell me all is done; they bid my fear depart.
To whom, save Thee, who canst alone
For sin atone, Lord, shall I flee?Thy pains, not mine, O Christ, upon the shameful tree,
Have paid the law’s full price and purchased peace for me.
To whom, save Thee, who canst alone
For sin atone, Lord, shall I flee?Thy cross, not mine, O Christ, has borne the awful load
Of sins that none in Heav’n or earth could bear but God.
To whom, save Thee, who canst alone
For sin atone, Lord, shall I flee?Thy death, not mine, O Christ, has paid the ransom due;
Ten thousand deaths like mine would have been all too few.
To whom, save Thee, who canst alone
For sin atone, Lord, shall I flee?Thy righteousness, O Christ, alone can cover me:
No righteousness avails save that which is of Thee.
To whom, save Thee, who canst alone
For sin atone, Lord, shall I flee?Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:8] What Did He Do?
O listen to our wondrous story,
Counted once among the lost;
Yet One came down from Heaven’s glory,
Saving us at awful cost!Refrain
Who saved us from eternal loss?
Who but God’s Son upon the cross?
What did He do?
He died for you!
Where is He now?
In heaven interceding!No angel could His place have taken,
Highest of the high though he;
The loved One on the cross forsaken,
Was One of the Godhead three!Refrain
And yet this wondrous tale proceedeth,
Stirring heart and tongue aflame!
As our High Priest in Heav’n He pleadeth,
And Christ Jesus is His Name!Refrain
Will you surrender to this Savior?
To His scepter humbly bow?
You, too, shall come to know His favor,
He will save you, save you now.Refrain

[Rom 5:8] When Time Seems Short And Death Is Near
When time seems short, and death is near,
And I am pressed by doubt and fear,
And sins, an overflowing tide,
Assail my peace on every side,
This thought my refuge still shall be,
I know my Savior died for me.His name is Jesus, and He died—
For guilty sinners crucified;
Content to die, that He might win
Their ransom from the death of sin.
No sinner worse than I can be,
Therefore I know He died for me.If grace were bought, I could not buy;
If grace were coined, no wealth have I;
By grace alone I draw my breath,
Held up from everlasting death.
Yet since I know His grace is free,
I know the Savior died for me.I read God’s holy Word, and find
Great truths which far transcend my mind
And little do I know beside
Of thought so high and deep and wide.
This is my best theology—
I know the Savior died for me.My faith is weak, but ’tis Thy gift;
Thou canst my helpless soul uplift,
And say, “Thy bonds of death are riv’n,
Thy sins by Me are all forgiv’n,
And thou shalt live, from guilt set free;
For I, thy Savior, died for thee.”Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:9] Save Me At The Cross
Loving Savior, hear my cry,
Hear my cry, hear my cry;
Trembling to Thy arms I fly,
Oh, save me at the cross.
I have sinned, but Thou hast died,
Thou hast died, Thou hast died;
In Thy mercy let me hide,
Oh, save me at the cross.Refrain
Lord Jesus, receive me,
No more would I grieve Thee;
Now, blessèd Redeemer,
Oh, save me at the cross.Though I perish I will pray,
I will pray, I will pray;
Thou of life the Living Way,
Oh, save me at the cross.
Thou hast said Thy grace is free,
Grace is free, grace is free;
Have compassion, Lord, on me,
Oh, save me at the cross.Refrain
Wash me in Thy cleansing blood,
Cleansing blood, cleansing blood;
Plunge me now beneath the flood,
Oh, save me at the cross.
Only faith will pardon bring,
Pardon bring, pardon bring,
In that faith to Thee I cling,
Oh, save me at the cross.Refrain

[Rom 5:9] Saved!
Saved! saved! saved! my sins are all forgiv’n;
Christ is mine! I’m on my way to Heav’n;
Once a guilty sinner, lost, undone,
Now a child of God, saved thro’ His Son.Refrain
Saved! I’m saved thro’ Christ, my all in all;
Saved! I’m saved, whatever may befall;
He died upon the cross for me,
He bore the awful penalty;
And now I’m saved eternally—
I’m saved! saved! saved!Saved! saved! saved! by grace and grace alone;
Oh, what wondrous love to me was shown,
In my stead Christ Jesus bled and died,
Bore my sins, for me was crucified.Refrain
Saved! saved! saved! oh, joy beyond compare!
Christ my life, and I His constant care;
Yielding all and trusting Him alone,
Living now each moment as His own.Refrain

[Rom 5:9] Saved Thru Jesus’ Blood
Sometime we’ll stand before the judgment bar,
The quick, the risen dead;
The Lord will then make known the record there;
Our names will all be read.Refrain
I’ll be present when the roll is called,
Pure and spotless thro’ the crimson flood;
I will answer when they call my name;
Saved thro’ Jesus’ blood.I’ll then receive a bright and starry crown,
As only God can give;
And when I’ve been with Him ten thousand years,
I’ll have no less to live.Refrain
Then we shall meet to never part again,
Our toil will then be o’er;
We’ll lay our burdens down at Jesus’ feet,
And rest forevermore.Refrain

[Rom 5:11] Jesu! The Very Thought Is Sweet
Jesu! the very thought is sweet!
In that dear Name all heart-joys meet;
But sweeter than the honey far
The glimpses of His presence are.No word is sung more sweet than this:
No name is heard more full of bliss;
No thought brings sweeter comfort nigh,
Than Jesus, Son of God most high.Jesu! the hope of souls forlorn!
How good to them for sin that that mourn!
To them that seek Thee, O how kind!
But what art Thou to them that find?Jesu, Thou sweetness, pure and blest,
Truth’s Fountain, Light of souls distressed,
Surpassing all that heart requires,
Exceeding all that soul desires!No tongue of mortal can express,
No letters write His blessedness,
Alone who hath Thee in his heart
Knows, love of Jesus! what Thou art.O Jesu! King of wondrous might!
O Victor, glorious from the fight!
Sweetness that may not be expressed,
And altogether loveliest!Remain with us, O Lord, today!
In every heart Thy grace display;
That now the shades of night are fled,
On Thee our spirits may be fed.All honor, laud and glory be,
O Jesu, virgin-born, to Thee!
All glory, as is ever meet,
To Father and to Paraclete.source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:13] Thou Power And Peace
Thou Power and Peace, in whom we find
All holiest strength, all purest love,
The rushing of the mighty wind,
The brooding of the gentle dove.Forever lend Thy sovereign aid,
And urge us on, and keep us Thine;
Nor leave the hearts which Thou hast made,
Fit temples of Thy grace divine.Nor let us quench Thy saving light;
But still with softest breathings stir,
Our wayward souls, and lead us right,
O Holy Spirit, Comforter!Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:15] O Gift Of Gifts!
O gift of gifts! O grace of faith!
My God, how can it be
That Thou, who hast discerning love
Shouldst give that gift to me?How many hearts Thou mightst have had
More innocent than mine,
How many souls more worthy far
Of that sweet touch of Thine!Ah, grace, unto unlikeliest hearts
It is thy boast to come;
The glory of thy light to find
In darkest spots a home.How can they live, how will they die,
How bear the cross of grief,
Who have not yet the light of faith,
The courage of belief?The crowd of cares, the weightiest cross,
Seems trifles less than light:
Earth looks so little and so low
When faith shines full and bright.O happy, happy that I am!
If thou canst be, O faith,
The treasure that thou art in life,
What will thou be in death?Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Rom 5:20] Grace Greater Than Our Sin
Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilled.Refrain
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin.Sin and despair, like the sea waves cold,
Threaten the soul with infinite loss;
Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold,
Points to the refuge, the mighty cross.Refrain
Dark is the stain that we cannot hide.
What can avail to wash it away?
Look! There is flowing a crimson tide,
Brighter than snow you may be today.Refrain
Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace,
Freely bestowed on all who believe!
You that are longing to see His face,
Will you this moment His grace receive?Refrain

[Rom 5:20] His Grace Aboundeth More
O what a wonderful Savior
In Jesus, my Lord, I have found!
Tho’ I had sins without number,
His grace unto me did abound.Refrain
His grace aboundeth more.
His grace aboundeth more.
Tho’ sin abounded in my heart,
His grace aboundeth more.When a poor sinner He found me;
No goodness to offer had I.
Often His law I had broken
And merited naught but to die.Refrain
Nothing of merit possessing,
All helpless before Him I lay;
But, in the precious blood flowing,
He washed all my sin-stains away.Refrain
How can I keep from rejoicing?
I’ll sing of the joy in my soul,
Praising the love of my Savior
While years of eternity roll.Refrain
