  Bread of the world, in mercy broken, Wine of the soul, in mercy shed, By Whom the words of life were spoken, And in Whose death our sins are dead. Look on the heart by sorrow broken, Look on the tears by sinners shed; And be Thy feast to us the token, That by Thy grace our souls are fed.

• [Joh 6:32] Here At Thy Table, Lord

  Here at Thy table, Lord, this sacred hour, O let us feel Thee near, in loving power, Calling our thoughts away from self and sin As to Thy banquet hall we enter in. Sit at the feast, dear Lord, break Thou the bread; Fill Thou the cup that brings life to the dead; That we may find in Thee pardon and peace, And from all bondage win a full release. So shall our life of faith be full, be sweet; And we shall find our strength for each day meet; Fed by Thy living bread, all hunger past, We shall be satisfied, and saved at last. Come then, O holy Christ, feed us, we pray; Touch with Thy piercèd hand each common day; Making this earthly life full of Thy grace, Till in the home of heaven we find our place.

• [Joh 6:33] By His Love

  On Passover our Lord preparèd to, With His belovèd twelve, His last supper share. To comfort, and to heal them by His love, He gave His Body and He gave His Blood. He gave them freedom and He gave them life. This by His Love! There in the upper room, He told the twelve, That He must die, thus from hell to save, Our souls held fast by hellish sinful loves, So we all might find homes in Heav’n above. He gave us freedom and He gave us life. This by His Love! John on His holy breast, did rest his head. While Peter cried, “I’m Yours unto death.” Their spirits willing but, their flesh was weak. But when Christ rose, He called them to the feast. He gave them freedom and He gave them life. This by His Love! We too may share with Christ, our unseen Host, The Bread of Love, and the Wine supreme. Our wounded spirits and our sin sick souls, Our Lord’s great healing love will now make whole. He gave us freedom and He gave us life. This by His Love!

• [Joh 6:35] Break Thou The Bread Of Life

  Break Thou the bread of life, dear Lord, to me, As Thou didst break the loaves beside the sea; Beyond the sacred page I seek Thee, Lord; My spirit pants for Thee, O living Word! Bless Thou the truth, dear Lord, to me, to me, As Thou didst bless the bread by Galilee; Then shall all bondage cease, all fetters fall; And I shall find my peace, my all in all. Thou art the bread of life, O Lord, to me, Thy holy Word the truth that saveth me; Give me to eat and live with Thee above; Teach me to love Thy truth, for Thou art love. O send Thy Spirit, Lord, now unto me, That He may touch my eyes, and make me see: Show me the truth concealed within Thy Word, And in Thy Book revealed I see the Lord.

  O Bread of life from Heaven, O Food to pilgrims given, O Manna from above: Feed with the blessèd sweetness Of Your divine completeness The souls that want and need Your love. O Fount of grace redeeming, O River ever streaming, From Jesus’ wounded side: Come now, Your love bestowing On thirsting souls, and flowing Till all are fully satisfied. We love You, Jesus, tender, In all Your hidden splendor Within these means of grace. Oh, let the veil be riven, And our clear eye in Heaven Behold Your glory face to face.

  O Bread to pilgrims given, O Food that angels eat, O Manna sent from Heaven, For Heav’n-born natures meet, Give us, for Thee long pining, To eat till richly filled; Till, earth’s delights resigning, Our every wish is stilled. O Water, life-bestowing, Forth from the Savior’s heart, A fountain purely flowing, A fount of love Thou art: O let us, freely tasting, Our burning thirst assuage; Thy sweetness, never wasting, Avails from age to age. Jesus, this feast receiving, We Thee unseen adore; Thy faithful word believing, We take, and doubt no more; Give us, Thou true and loving, On earth to live in Thee; Then, death the veil removing, Thy glorious face to see.

  O food to pilgrims given, O bread of life from Heaven, O manna from on high! We hunger, Lord, supply us, Nor Thy delights deny us, Whose hearts to Thee draw nigh. O stream of love past telling, O purest fountain welling From out the Savior’s side! We faint with thirst; revive us, Of Thine abundance give us, And all we need provide. O Jesus, by Thee bidden, We here adore Thee, Hidden in forms of bread and wine. Grant when the veil is riven, We may behold, in heaven, Thy countenance divine.
