Genesis 42:19

42:19 If you are honest men, leave one of your brothers confined here in prison 1  while the rest of you go 2  and take grain back for your hungry families. 3 

Genesis 42:24

Context
42:24 He turned away from them and wept. When he turned around and spoke to them again, 4  he had Simeon taken 5  from them and tied up 6  before their eyes.

Genesis 42:36

42:36 Their father Jacob said to them, “You are making me childless! Joseph is gone. 7  Simeon is gone. 8  And now you want to take 9  Benjamin! Everything is against me.”

1 tn Heb “bound in the house of your prison.”

2 tn The disjunctive clause is circumstantial-temporal.

3 tn Heb “[for] the hunger of your households.”

4 tn Heb “and he turned to them and spoke to them.”

5 tn Heb “took Simeon.” This was probably done at Joseph’s command, however; the grand vizier of Egypt would not have personally seized a prisoner.

6 tn Heb “and he bound him.” See the note on the preceding verb “taken.”
