• [Act 9:3] We Sing The Glorious Conquest

  We sing the glorious conquest, Before Damascus’ gate, When Saul, the Church’s spoiler, Came breathing threats and hate; The rav’ning wolf rushed forward Full early to the prey; But lo! the Shepherd met him, And bound him fast today. O glory most excelling That smote across his path! O light that pierced and blinded The zealot in his wrath! O voice that spake within him The calm, reproving word! O love that sought and held him The bondman of his Lord! O Wisdom ord’ring all things In order strong and sweet, What nobler spoil was ever Cast at the Victor’s feet? What wiser master builder E’er wrought at Thine employ Than he, till now so furious Thy building to destroy? Lord, teach thy Church the lesson, Still in her darkest hour Of weakness and of danger, To trust Thy hidden power; Thy grace by ways mysterious The wrath of man can bind, And in Thy boldest foeman Thy chosen saint can find.

• [Act 9:4] Shepherd Now Was Smitten, The

  The Shepherd now was smitten; The wolf was ravening near; The scattered flock he threatened, But knew not Whose they were. In zealous fury seeking To bind and crucify, A sudden voice withheld him, A loud and startling cry: “Saul! Saul! why blindly daring To persecute thy Lord? ’Tis Jesus Whom thou hatest, Rebel not at My Word.” Then forth in prayer he stretcheth Those hands prepared to slay; “What wouldst Thou with Thy servant? My Lord and Master, say.” Christ’s foe becomes His soldier, The wolf destroys no more, A gentle lamb he enters The sheepfold by the door. O voice of God Almighty, What wonders hath it wrought! It rends the lofty cedars, It bends the haughty thought. Jesu, our Shepherd, cease not Thy flock from harm to free, And, when Thy sheep are wandering, O lead them back to Thee. To Father, Son, and Spirit, All glory, praise and might, Who called us out of darkness To His own glorious light.

  What wilt Thou have me to do, O Lord, What wilt Thou have me to do? Thou hast redeemed me, Thy right I own, Thine are my pow’rs, my Savior, alone; Thou hast for me such great things done. Refrain What wilt Thou have me to do? What is the labor appointed me? Where shall I labor for Thee? What wilt Thou have me to do, O Lord, What wilt Thou have me to do? Is it to labor? I’ll gladly go; Is it to wait? then let it be so; Only Thy will I ask to know; Refrain What wilt Thou have me to do, O Lord, What wilt Thou have me to do? Sing of Thy mercy Who died for me? Tell the good news, salvation is free? Say, shall I work or sing for Thee? Refrain
