  King of the City Splendid, Eternal in the height, May all our country’s cities Grow holy in Thy sight; Cleansed from the deeds of darkness— Cities of light. Teach love to gladden children That know not childhood’s mirth, Wronged of their rights—no beauty In their scant reach of earth; To hope’s large sunshine give them A second birth. Give joy to all the joyless, Song’s voice to sorrows dumb, May light invade with blessing Each dark and deathly slum; Into earth’s realms of horror Thy Kingdom come! Soon may our country’s cities Thy robe of glory wear; Each place of toil a temple, Each house a home of prayer; Each city’s name of beauty— The Lord is there!

• [Rev 3:12] O What Their Joy And Their Glory Must Be

  O what their joy and their glory must be, Those endless Sabbaths the blessèd ones see; Crown for the valiant, to weary ones, rest; God shall be all, and in all ever blessed. What are the Monarch, His court, and His throne? What are the peace and the joy that they own? O that the blessed ones, who in it have share, All that they feel could as fully declare! Truly, “Jerusalem” name we that shore, City of peace that brings joy evermore; Wish and fulfillment are not severed there, Nor do things prayed for come short of the prayer. There, where no troubles distraction can bring, We the sweet anthems of Zion shall sing; While for Thy grace, Lord, their voices of praise Thy blessèd people eternally raise. There dawns no Sabbath, no Sabbath is o’er, Those Sabbath keepers have one evermore; One and unending is that triumph song Which to the angels and us shall belong. Now, in the meanwhile, with hearts raised on high, We for that country must yearn and must sigh; Seeking Jerusalem, dear native land, Through our long exile on Babylon’s strand. Low before Him with our praises we fall, Of Whom, and in Whom, and through Whom are all; Of Whom, the Father; and in Whom, the Son, Through Whom, the Spirit, with Them ever One.

• [Rev 12:10] Come, Kingdom Of Our God

  Come, kingdom of our God, Sweet reign of light and love! Shed peace and hope and joy abroad, And wisdom, from above. Over our spirits first Extend Thy healing reign; There raise and quench the sacred thirst That never pains again. Come, kingdom of our God! And make the broad earth Thine; Stretch o’er her lands and isles the rod That flowers with grace divine. Soon may all tribes be blest With fruit from life’s glad tree; And in its shade like brothers rest, Sons of one family. Come, kingdom of our God, And raise the glorious throne In worlds by the undying trod, When God shall bless His own.

  To Thee and to Thy Christ, O God, We sing, we ever sing; For He the lonely wine press trod, Our cup of joy to bring. His glorious arm the strife maintained, He marched in might from far; His robes were with the vintage stained, Red with the wine of war. To Thee and to Thy Christ, O God, We sing, we ever sing; For He invaded death’s abode, And robbed him of his sting. The house of dust enthralls no more, For He, the Strong to save, Himself doth guard that silent door, Great Keeper of the grave. He plunged in His imperial strength To gulfs of darkness down; He brought His trophy up at length, The foiled usurper’s crown. Thy saving strength His arm upbore, The arm that set us free: Glory, O God, forevermore Be to Thy Christ and Thee.

• [Rev 19:10] Life And Strength Of All Thy Servants

  Life and strength of all Thy servants, Brightness of the Father’s light; Men with angels, earth with Heaven, In Thy praise their songs unite. Thousand thousand warrior princes In Thine angel army stand; Flames the victor Cross before them, Grasped in Michael’s dauntless hand. Hurling back from Heav’n the rebels With the lifting of his sword, In the might of God he tramples On the dragon’s head abhorred. Lord of angels, Christ, we pray Thee, Bid them aid us in our strife, Chase afar the hosts of evil, Till we reach the land of life. God the Father, God immortal, God the Son, for us Who died, God the Comforter, the Spirit, Evermore be glorified!

  Those eternal bowers, man hath never trod, Those unfading flowers round the throne of God: Who may hope to gain them after weary fight? Who at length attain them, clad in robes of white? He who wakes from slumber at the Spirit’s voice, Daring here to number things unseen his choice: He whose one oblation is a life of love, Knit in God’s salvation to the blest above. Shame upon you, legions of the heav’nly King, Citizens of regions past imagining! What! with pipe and tabor dream away the light, When He bids you labor, when He tells you, “Fight”? Jesus, Lord of glory, as we breast the tide, Whisper Thou the story of the other side; Where the saints are casting crowns before Thy feet, Safe for everlasting, in Thyself complete.
