• [Rev 2:17] O For A Heart To Praise My God

  O for a heart to praise my God, A heart from sin set free, A heart that always feels Thy blood So freely shed for me. A heart resigned, submissive, meek, My great Redeemer’s throne, Where only Christ is heard to speak, Where Jesus reigns alone. A humble, lowly, contrite, heart, Believing, true and clean, Which neither life nor death can part From Christ who dwells within. A heart in every thought renewed And full of love divine, Perfect and right and pure and good, A copy, Lord, of Thine. Thy tender heart is still the same, And melts at human woe: Jesus, for thee distressed I am, I want Thy love to know. My heart, Thou know’st, can never rest Till Thou create my peace; Till of mine Eden repossest, From self, and sin, I cease. Fruit of Thy gracious lips, on me Bestow that peace unknown, The hidden manna, and the tree Of life, and the white stone. Thy nature, gracious Lord, impart; Come quickly from above; Write Thy new name upon my heart, Thy new, best name of Love.

  King of the City Splendid, Eternal in the height, May all our country’s cities Grow holy in Thy sight; Cleansed from the deeds of darkness— Cities of light. Teach love to gladden children That know not childhood’s mirth, Wronged of their rights—no beauty In their scant reach of earth; To hope’s large sunshine give them A second birth. Give joy to all the joyless, Song’s voice to sorrows dumb, May light invade with blessing Each dark and deathly slum; Into earth’s realms of horror Thy Kingdom come! Soon may our country’s cities Thy robe of glory wear; Each place of toil a temple, Each house a home of prayer; Each city’s name of beauty— The Lord is there!

• [Rev 3:12] O What Their Joy And Their Glory Must Be

  O what their joy and their glory must be, Those endless Sabbaths the blessèd ones see; Crown for the valiant, to weary ones, rest; God shall be all, and in all ever blessed. What are the Monarch, His court, and His throne? What are the peace and the joy that they own? O that the blessed ones, who in it have share, All that they feel could as fully declare! Truly, “Jerusalem” name we that shore, City of peace that brings joy evermore; Wish and fulfillment are not severed there, Nor do things prayed for come short of the prayer. There, where no troubles distraction can bring, We the sweet anthems of Zion shall sing; While for Thy grace, Lord, their voices of praise Thy blessèd people eternally raise. There dawns no Sabbath, no Sabbath is o’er, Those Sabbath keepers have one evermore; One and unending is that triumph song Which to the angels and us shall belong. Now, in the meanwhile, with hearts raised on high, We for that country must yearn and must sigh; Seeking Jerusalem, dear native land, Through our long exile on Babylon’s strand. Low before Him with our praises we fall, Of Whom, and in Whom, and through Whom are all; Of Whom, the Father; and in Whom, the Son, Through Whom, the Spirit, with Them ever One.

• [Rev 19:10] Life And Strength Of All Thy Servants

  Life and strength of all Thy servants, Brightness of the Father’s light; Men with angels, earth with Heaven, In Thy praise their songs unite. Thousand thousand warrior princes In Thine angel army stand; Flames the victor Cross before them, Grasped in Michael’s dauntless hand. Hurling back from Heav’n the rebels With the lifting of his sword, In the might of God he tramples On the dragon’s head abhorred. Lord of angels, Christ, we pray Thee, Bid them aid us in our strife, Chase afar the hosts of evil, Till we reach the land of life. God the Father, God immortal, God the Son, for us Who died, God the Comforter, the Spirit, Evermore be glorified!
