Revelation 18:6

Context
18:6 Repay her the same way she repaid others; 1  pay her back double 2  corresponding to her deeds. In the cup she mixed, mix double the amount for her.

Revelation 8:3

Context
8:3 Another 3  angel holding 4  a golden censer 5  came and was stationed 6  at the altar. A 7  large amount of incense was given to him to offer up, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar that is before the throne.

1 tn The word “others” is not in the Greek text, but is implied. Direct objects were frequently omitted in Greek when clear from the context.

2 tn On this term BDAG 252 s.v. διπλόω states, “to double τὰ διπλᾶ pay back double Rv 18:6.”

3 tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

4 tn Grk “having.”

5 sn A golden censer was a bowl in which incense was burned. The imagery suggests the OT role of the priest.

6 tn The verb “to station” was used to translate ἑστάθη (Jestaqh) because it connotes the idea of purposeful arrangement in English, which seems to be the idea in the Greek.

7 tn Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation. Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.
