Revelation 14:4

Context

14:4 These are the ones who have not defiled themselves 1  with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These were redeemed from humanity as firstfruits to God and to the Lamb,

Revelation 16:18

Context
16:18 Then 2  there were flashes of lightning, roaring, 3  and crashes of thunder, and there was a tremendous earthquake – an earthquake unequaled since humanity 4  has been on the earth, so tremendous was that earthquake.

Revelation 9:20

Context
9:20 The rest of humanity, who had not been killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so that they did not stop worshiping demons and idols made 5  of gold, silver, 6  bronze, stone, and wood – idols that cannot see or hear or walk about.

1 tn The aorist passive verb is rendered as a reflexive (“defiled themselves”) by BDAG 657 s.v. μολύνω 2.

2 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the vision.

3 tn Or “sounds,” “voices.” It is not entirely clear what this refers to. BDAG 1071 s.v. φωνή 1 states, “In Rv we have ἀστραπαὶ καὶ φωναὶ καὶ βρονταί (cp. Ex 19:16) 4:5; 8:5; 11:19; 16:18 (are certain other sounds in nature thought of here in addition to thunder, as e.g. the roar of the storm?…).”

4 tn The singular ἄνθρωπος (anqrwpo") is used generically here to refer to the human race.

5 tn The word “made” is not in the Greek text but is implied.

6 tn The Greek conjunction καί (kai) has not been translated here or before the following materials in this list, since English normally uses a coordinating conjunction only between the last two elements in a series of three or more.
