Psalms 132:13

Context

132:13 Certainly 9  the Lord has chosen Zion;

he decided to make it his home. 10

1 tn Or “confront.”

2 tn For this sense of the Hebrew term נגע see Ps 38:11.

3 tn Heb “your tent.”

4 tn Or “sons.”

5 tn Heb “and roaming, may his children roam and beg, and seek from their ruins.” Some, following the LXX, emend the term וְדָרְשׁוּ (vÿdoreshu, “and seek”) to יְגֹרְשׁוּ (yÿgoreshu; a Pual jussive, “may they be driven away” [see Job 30:5; cf. NIV, NRSV]), but דָּרַשׁ (darash) nicely parallels שִׁאֵלוּ (shielu, “and beg”) in the preceding line.

6 tn The words “he said” are supplied in the translation to clarify that what follows is David’s vow.

7 tn Heb “the tent of my house.”

8 tn Heb “go up upon the bed of my couch.”

9 tn Or “for.”

10 tn Heb “he desired it for his dwelling place.”
