  Come now with joy and singing, Loud hallelujahs ringing, Our grateful tribute bringing To our almighty Friend; Offering with purest pleasure, To Him the heart’s full treasure, Whose love no thought can measure, Whose praise shall never end. Refrain We sing with exultation, Lord God of our salvation; Thou art our sure Foundation, Our Refuge evermore. When to this Refuge flying, Turn sinners, helpless, dying, On Christ alone relying, No harm can reach them there; When floods of grief are dashing, And waves of sorrow splashing, Light to the soul comes flashing— God’s smile through dark despair. Refrain In waking or in sleeping, Bright days, or nights of weeping, Our souls are in Thy keeping While here we wait below; In Thee alone abiding, And in Thy love confiding, Safe when Thy hand is guiding, We’ll ever gladly go. • [Psa 18:27] Thou That Dost Save Through Pain

  Thou that dost save through pain, And dost, afflicting, bless, We offer Thee from prostrate hearts The greater thankfulness. Lord, Thou hast humbled pride— Hast shown the world at length What ruthlessness may dwell with power, What bankruptcy with strength. And teaching us the scorn Of trifles that beguile Hast given us, dear God, to live When life is most worthwhile. We thank Thee for the dream That heroes dreamed of yore, Their vision of the good, the will Earth’s freedom to restore. Spoiled children of the past, Today, more nobly blest, We thank Thee Who hast wakened us, And asked of us our best. God of the young and brave, Who nothing know of fear, Who hold the things that life outlast Than life itself more dear. We thank Thee that our souls Are strong as theirs to give All, all we cherish most on earth, That liberty may live: That we, O Good Supreme, Still through our tears can see On death’s pale brow an aureole Of immortality!

  God, who omniscient art, Could we from Thee depart, Hide aught from Thee, Thou, Lord, would search it out, Know all our sin and doubt, Searching within, without, Our secrets see. Sorely oppressed are we, Naught but affliction see, O Lord, awake! Lord, from Thy sleep arise, No longer close Thine eyes; See how we are despised, All for Thy sake. Humbled unto the dust, In Thee alone we trust; Thy love we plead. Refuge in Thee to take, Lord, for Thy mercy’s sake, Our humble plea we make: Thy help we need.

• [Psa 69:29] Though I Am Poor And Sorrowful

  Though I am poor and sorrowful, Hear Thou, O God, my cry; Let Thy salvation come to me And lift me up on high. Then will I praise my God with song, To Him my thanks shall rise, And this shall please Jehovah more Than offered sacrifice. The meek shall see it and rejoice; Ye saints, no more be sad; For lo, Jehovah hears the poor And makes his His prisoners glad. Let Heaven and earth and seas rejoice, Let all therein give praise, For Zion God will surely save, Her broken walls will raise. In Zion they that love His Name Shall dwell from age to age, Yea, there shall be their lasting rest, Their children’s heritage.

  Bow down Thine ear, O Lord, and hear, For I am poor and great my need; Preserve my soul, for Thee I fear; O God, Thy trusting servant heed. O Lord, be merciful to me, For all the day to Thee I cry; Rejoice Thy servant, for to Thee I lift my soul, O Lord most high. For Thou, O Lord, art good and kind, And ready to forgive Thou art; Abundant mercy they shall find Who call on Thee with all their heart.   Lord of creation, bow Thine ear, O Christ, to hear The intercession of Thy servant true and dear, That we unworthy, who have trespassed in Thy sight, May live before Thee where he dwells in glorious light. O God our Savior, look on Thine inheritance, Sealed by the favor shining from Thy countenance; That no false spirit bring to naught the souls of price Bought by the merit of Thy perfect sacrifice. We bear the burden of our guilt and enmity, Until Thy pardon lift the heart from slavery; Then through the spending of Thy life blood, King of grace, Grant us unending triumph in Thy holy place.   To my humble supplication, Lord, give ear and acceptation; Save Thy servant, that hath none Help nor hope but Thee alone. Send, O send, relieving gladness To my soul oppressed with sadness, Which, from clog of earth set free, Winged with zeal, flies up to Thee. To Thee, rich in mercies’ treasure, And in goodness without measure, Never failing help to those Who on Thy sure help repose. Heavenly Tutor, of Thy kindness, Teach my dullness, guide my blindness, That my steps Thy paths may tread, Which to endless bliss do lead.
