88:10 Do you accomplish amazing things for the dead?

Do the departed spirits 6  rise up and give you thanks? (Selah)

Psalms 94:16

Context

94:16 Who will rise up to defend me 7  against the wicked?

Who will stand up for me against the evildoers? 8 

1 sn Rise up, Lord! …May the nations be judged. The psalm concludes with a petition that the Lord would continue to exercise his justice as he has done in the recent crisis.

2 tn Or “prevail.”

3 tn Heb “Be in front of his face.”

4 tn Or “bring him to his knees.”

5 tn Heb “rescue my life from the wicked [one] [by] your sword.”

6 tn Heb “Rephaim,” a term that refers to those who occupy the land of the dead (see Isa 14:9; 26:14, 19).

7 tn Heb “for me.”

8 sn Who will stand up for me…? The questions anticipate the answer, “No one except God” (see v. 17).
