it took root, 2 

and filled the land.

89:9 You rule over the proud sea. 3 

When its waves surge, 4  you calm them.

3 tn Heb “the majesty of the sea.”

4 tn Heb “rise up.”

5 tn After the preceding imperative, the prefixed verbal form with vav (ו) conjunctive indicates purpose or result.

6 tn Heb “that your hand [is] this.”

7 tn Heb “this is the day the Lord has made.” Though sometimes applied in a general way, this statement in its context refers to the day of deliverance which the psalmist and people celebrate.
