  Almighty Ruler of the skies, Thro’ the wide earth Thy Name is spread; And Thine eternal glories rise O’er all the heav’ns Thy hands have made. To Thee the voices of the young A monument of honor raise; And babes, with uninstructed tongue, Declare the wonders of Thy praise. Thy power assists their tender age To bring proud rebels to the ground, To still the bold blasphemer’s rage, And all their policies confound. Children amidst Thy temple throng To see their great Redeemer’s face; The Son of David is their song, And young hosannas fill the place. The frowning scribes and angry priests In vain their impious cavils bring; Revenge sits silent in their hearts; While Jewish babes proclaim their King.

  Lord, our Lord, Thy glorious Name All Thy wondrous works proclaim; In the heav’ns with radiant signs Evermore Thy glory shines. How great Thy Name! • [Psa 8:1] O Lord, Our Heav’nly King

  O Lord, our heav’nly King, Thy Name is all divine; Thy glories round the earth are spread, And o’er the heav’ns they shine. When to Thy works on high I raise my wond’ring eyes, I see the moon, complete in light, Adorn the darksome skies. When I survey the stars, And all their shining forms, Lord, what is man, that worthless thing, Akin to dust and worms? Lord, what is worthless man, That Thou shouldst love him so? Next to Thine angels he is placed, And lord of all below. Thine honors crown his head, While beasts, like slaves, obey; And birds that cut the air with wings, And fish that cleave the sea. How rich Thy bounties are! And wondrous are Thy ways; Of dust and worms Thy power can frame A monument of praise. Out of the mouths of babes And sucklings Thou canst draw Surprising honors to Thy Name And strike the world with awe.   O Lord, our Lord, in all the earth, How excellent Thy Name! Thy glory Thou hast spread afar In all the starry frame. From lips of children, Thou, O Lord, Hast mighty strength ordained, That adversaries should be stilled And vengeful foes restrained. When I regard the wondrous heavens, Thy handiwork on high, The moon and stars ordained by Thee, Oh, what is man! I cry. Oh, what is man, in Thy regard To hold so large a place! And what the son of man, that Thou Dost visit him in grace! For Thou hast made him little less Than Thy blest angels be; With honor Thou hast crowned his head And glorious dignity. On man Thy wisdom hath bestowed A pow’r well nigh divine; With honor Thou hast crowned his head With glory like to Thine. Thou hast subjected all to him, And lord of all is he, Of flocks and herds, and beasts and birds, And all within the sea. Thy mighty works and wondrous grace Thy glory, Lord, proclaim. Psalms 51:4

• [Psa 51:4] In Evil Long I Took Delight

  In evil long I took delight, Unawed by shame or fear, Till a new object struck my sight, And stopped my wild career. I saw One hanging on a tree, In agony and blood, Who fixed His languid eyes on me, As near His cross I stood. Sure, never to my latest breath, Can I forget that look; It seemed to charge me with His death, Though not a word He spoke. My conscience felt and owned the guilt, And plunged me in despair, I saw my sins His blood had spilt, And helped to nail Him there. A second look He gave, which said, “I freely all forgive; This blood is for thy ransom paid; I die that thou mayst live.” Thus, while His death my sin displays In all its blackest hue, Such is the mystery of grace, It seals my pardon too.

Psalms 138:2

• [Psa 138:2] To Thy Temple Holy

  To Thy temple holy, come we now with praise; Thou, the meek and lowly, guide us to Thy ways; To Thy courts ascending, though unworthy we; Let our worship, blending, swell Thy harmony. Not with ostentation, not with proud acclaim, Come we, Lord and Master, to extol Thy Name; But with Christly spirit, humble and sincere, Pleading but Thy merit, we Thy Name revere. For Thy Holy Spirit earnestly we plead, Visit us, bestowing grace for all our need, Sanctify our worship to Thy glory, Lord; Grant us spirits eager to receive Thy Word. To Thy temple holy, come we now with praise; Thou, the meek and lowly, guide us to Thy ways; So shall we, renewing every solemn vow, Live for larger service if Thou bless us now.
