Psalms 77:7

Context

77:7 I asked, 1  “Will the Lord reject me forever?

Will he never again show me his favor?

Psalms 105:40

Context

105:40 They asked for food, 2  and he sent quails;

he satisfied them with food from the sky. 3

1 tn As in vv. 4 and 6a, the words of vv. 7-9 are understood as a quotation of what the psalmist said earlier. Therefore the words “I asked” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

2 tn Heb “he [i.e., his people] asked.” The singular form should probably be emended to a plural שָׁאֲלוּ (shaalu, “they asked”), the vav (ו) having fallen off by haplography (note the vav at the beginning of the following form).

3 tn Or “bread of heaven.” The reference is to manna (see Exod 16:4, 13-15).
