Psalms 135:6

Context

135:6 He does whatever he pleases

in heaven and on earth,

in the seas and all the ocean depths.

1 tn Heb “in the sea [was] your way.”

2 tn Heb “and your paths [were] in the mighty waters.”

3 tn Heb “and your footprints were not known.”

4 tn Some identify “the sea” as the Mediterranean and “the rivers” as the Euphrates and its tributaries. However, it is more likely that “the sea” and “the rivers” are symbols for hostile powers that oppose God and the king (see v. 9, as well as Ps 93:3-4).

5 tn Heb “this [is] the sea, great and broad of hands [i.e., “sides” or “shores”].”

6 tn Heb “where [there are] swimming things, and without number.”
