Context

107:26 They 4  reached up to the sky,

then dropped into the depths.

The sailors’ strength 5  left them 6  because the danger was so great. 7

1 sn Psalm 69. The psalmist laments his oppressed condition and asks the Lord to deliver him by severely judging his enemies.

2 tn Heb “according to lilies.” See the superscription to Ps 45.

3 tn The Hebrew term נפשׁ (nefesh) here refers to the psalmist’s throat or neck. The psalmist compares himself to a helpless, drowning man.

4 tn That is, the waves (see v. 25).

5 tn Heb “their being”; traditionally “their soul” (referring to that of the sailors). This is sometimes translated “courage” (cf. NIV, NRSV).

6 tn Or “melted.”

7 tn Heb “from danger.”
