Psalms 149:6

Context

149:6 May they praise God

while they hold a two-edged sword in their hand, 6

1 tn Heb “day and night they surround it, upon its walls.” Personified “violence and conflict” are the likely subjects. They are compared to watchmen on the city’s walls.

2 sn Wickedness and destruction. These terms are also closely associated in Ps 7:14.

3 tn The prefixed verbal form is understood as a jussive of prayer. Another option is to translate, “the wicked will fall.”

4 tn Heb “his.”

5 tn Heb “at the same [that] I, until I pass by.” Another option is to take יַחַד (yakhad) with the preceding line, “let the wicked fall together into their own nets.”

6 tn Heb “[May] praises of God [be] in their throat, and a two-edged sword in their hand.”
