124:1 “If the Lord had not been on our side” –

let Israel say this! –

¹tn Heb “the Lord of hosts is with us.” The title “Lord of hosts” here pictures the Lord as a mighty warrior-king who leads armies into battle (see Ps 24:10). The military imagery is further developed in vv. 8-9.

²tn That is, Israel, or Judah (see Ps 20:1).

³tn Heb “our elevated place” (see Pss 9:9; 18:2).

¹⁰sn Psalm 124. Israel acknowledges that the Lord delivered them from certain disaster.

¹¹sn The precise significance of this title, which appears in Pss 120-134, is unclear. Perhaps worshipers recited these psalms when they ascended the road to Jerusalem to celebrate annual religious festivals. For a discussion of their background see L. C. Allen, Psalms 101-150 (WBC), 219-21.

displaying	set the max displaying in one page.	"20" will set displaying max to 20 per page
