Psalms 44:1-5

[Psa 44:1] O God, We Have Heard
O God, we have heard, and our fathers have told
What wonders Thou didst in the great days of old;
The nations were crushed and expelled by Thy hand,
Cast out that Thy people might dwell in their land.They gained not the land by the edge of the sword,
Their own arm to them could no safety afford,
But Thy right hand saved, and the light of Thy face,
Because of Thy favor and wonderful grace.Command, and Thy word shall deliverance bring,
O God, to Thy chosen, for Thou art our King;
Through Thee we will surely defeat all our foes,
Through Thy Name will triumph o’er those that oppose.No trust will I place in my strength to defend.
Nor yet on my sword as a safeguard depend;
In Thee, who hast saved us and put them to shame,
We boast all the day, ever praising Thy Name.Thou, Lord, hast forsaken, to shame brought our boasts;
No more to the field dost Thou go with our hosts;
Thou turnest us back from the foe in dismay,
And spoilers who hate us have made us their prey.Like sheep to the slaughter Thy people are given,
Dispersed through the nations, afar we are driven;
Thou sellest Thy people to strangers for naught,
Their price to Thy treasure no increase has brought.Thou makest our neighbors reproach us in pride,
And those that are near us to scoff and deride;
A byword the nations have made of our name,
With scorn and derision they put us to shame.Yea, all the day long I behold my disgrace,
And covered am I with confusion of face;
The voice of blasphemers and scoffers I hear,
The foe and avenger against me appear.All this have we suffered, and never forgot
To serve Thee, Jehovah, nor falsely have wrought;
Our heart is not turned, and our steps have not strayed,

[Psa 44:1] O Lord, Our Fathers Oft Have Told
O Lord, our fathers oft have told,
In our attentive ears,
Thy wonders in their days performed,
And in more ancient years.’Twas not their courage, or their sword,
To them salvation gave;
’Twas not their number or their strength
That did their country save.But Thy right hand, Thy powerful arm,
Whose succor they implored—
Thy providence protected them,
Who Thy great Name adored.As Thee their God our fathers owned
So Thou art still our King;
O therefore as Thou didst to them,
To us deliverance bring.To Thee the glory we ascribe,
From Whom salvation came;
In God, our Shield, we will rejoice,

[Psa 44:1] Our Nation, God, Its Heart To Thee Upraiseth
Our nation, God, its heart to Thee upraiseth,
O Lord, the nation bows before Thy face:
With high thanksgiving, Thee Thy glad church praiseth,
Our strength Thy Spir’t, our trust and hope Thy grace.Unto great honor, glory undeservèd,
Hast Thou exalted us, and drawn Thee nigh:
Nor, from Thy judgments, when our feet had swervèd,
Didst Thou forsake, nor leave us, Lord most high.In Thee our fathers trusted, and were savèd,
In Thee destroyèd thrones of tyrants proud:
From ancient bondage freed the poor enslavèd;
To sow Thy truth poured out their saintly blood.Us now, we pray, O God, in anger scorn not,
Nor to vainglorying leave, nor brutish sense
In time of trouble Thy face from us turn not,
Who art our Rock, our stately sure defense.Unto our minds give freedom and uprightness;
Let strengthened courage lead o’er land and wave,
To our souls’ armor grant celestial brightness,
Joy to our hearts, and faith beyond the grave.Our plenteous nation still in power extending,
Increase our joy, uphold us by Thy Word:
Beauty and wisdom all our ways attending,

[Psa 44:1] Praise To Our God, Whose Bounteous Hand
Praise to our God, whose bounteous hand
Prepared of old our glorious land;
A garden fenced with silver sea;
A people prosperous, strong, and free.Praise to our God; through all our past
His mighty arm hath held us fast;
Till wars and perils, toils and tears,
Have brought the rich and peaceful years.Praise to our God; the vine He set
Within our coasts is fruitful yet;
On many a shore her offshoots grow;
’Neath many a sun her clusters glow.Praise to our God; His power alone
Can keep unmoved our ancient throne,
Sustained by counsels wise and just,
And guarded by a people’s trust.Praise to our God; Who still forbears
Who still this sinful nation spares,
Who calls us still to seek His face,
And lengthens out our day of grace.Praise to our God; through chastenings stern
Our evil dross should thoroughly burn,
His rod and staff, from age to age,

[Psa 44:4] My God, My Heavenly King
O God, my heavenly King,
My Savior, and my All,
To Thee my every power I bring,
And at Thy footstool fall.By Thee I am supplied
With every good below:
Thou art my Shepherd and my Guide,
In all the way I go.Fain would I follow Thee,
Nor from Thy footsteps stray,
Whate’er my pains or conflicts be,
Or snares my foes may lay.I know that Thou art nigh,
My Fortress, Shield and Tower:
On Thy rich mercy I’ll rely,
