• [Psa 4:1] My Prayer

  O Father, hear me as I pray to Thee, I know that I am far from purity; But Jesus died that sinful men might live, So in His Name I ask Thee to forgive. Refrain Father, Father, Humbly now I come to Thee; Father, Father, Hear, oh hear my humble plea. I pray that Thou wilt pardon ev’ry sin; O Lord, forgive and make me pure within. Plant a desire for service in my heart And give me strength to always do my part. Refrain Tonight, O Father, as the shadows creep And I so gently close my eyes in sleep, I pray that Thou wilt guard me through the night And keep me safe till comes the morning light. Refrain When morning comes, oh, let me rise to work, Forbid that duty I should ever shirk; And when at last my race on earth is run, Grant, Lord, that I may hear Thee say, “Well done.” Refrain

  My righteous God, who oft of old Hast saved from troubles manifold, Give answer when I call to Thee, Be gracious now and hear my plea. How long, O men, will ye defame How long My glory turn to shame, How long will ye vain follies prize, How long pursue deceit and lies? But know, the Lord has set apart The man of godly life and heart To be His favored one for aye; Jehovah hears me when I pray. In reverence wait, from sin depart, In meditation calm your heart; Hold fast the right, be true and just, And in Jehovah put your trust. O who will show us any good, Exclaims the faithless multitude; But lift on us, O Lord, we pray, The brightness of Thy face this day. More joy from Thee has filled my heart Than great abundance could impart; I lay me down to peaceful sleep, For Thou, O Lord, dost safely keep.

  O God of grace and righteousness, Hear and attend when I complain; Thou hast enlarged me in distress, Bow down a gracious ear again. Ye sons of men, in vain ye try To turn my glory into shame; How long will scoffers love to lie, And dare reproach my Savior’s Name? Know that the Lord divides His saints From all the tribes of men beside; He hears the cry of penitents, For the dear sake of Christ that died. Let the unthinking many say, “Who will bestow some earthly good?” But Lord, Thy light and love we pray; Our souls desire this heav’nly food.   O Thou whose justice reigns on high, And makes th’oppressor cease, Behold how envious sinners try To vex and break my peace. The sons of violence and lies Join to devour me, Lord; But as my hourly dangers rise, My refuge is Thy Word. In God most holy, just, and true, I have reposed my trust; Nor will I fear what flesh can do, The offspring of the dust. They wrest my words to mischief still, Charge me with unknown faults; Mischief doth all their counsels fill, And malice all their thoughts. Shall they escape without Thy frown? Must their devices stand? O cast the haughty sinner down, And let him know Thy hand. God counts the sorrows of His saints, Their groans affect His ears; Thou hast a book for my complaints, A bottle for my tears. When to Thy throne I raise my cry, The wicked fear and flee; So swift is prayer to reach the sky, So near is God to me. In Thee, most holy, just, and true, I have reposed my trust; Nor will I fear what man can do, The offspring of the dust. Thy solemn vows are on me, Lord, Thou shalt receive my praise; I’ll sing, “How faithful is Thy Word, How righteous all Thy ways!” Thou hast secured my soul from death, O set Thy pris’ner free! That heart and hand, and life and breath, May be employ’d for Thee.

  O God, be merciful to me, My soul for refuge comes to Thee, Beneath Thy wings I safe will stay, Until these troubles pass away.   O God, Thou hast cast off Thy saints; Thy face Thou dost in anger hide, And lo, Thy Church for terror faints, While breaches all her walls divide! Hard things Thou hast upon us laid, And made us drink most bitter wine; But still Thy banner we’ve displayed, And borne aloft Thy truth divine. Our courage fails not, though the night No earthly lamp avails to break, For Thou wilt soon arise in might, And of our captors captives make. Thy right hand shall Thy people aid; Thy faithful promise makes us strong; We will Philistia’s land invade, And over Edom chant the song. Through Thee we shall most valiant prove, And tread the foe beneath our feet; Through Thee our faith shall hills remove, And small as chaff the mountains beat.

  O God, Thou hast rejected us, And hast afflicted sore; Thou hast been angry, but in grace O once again restore. Lo, Thou hast torn and rent our land, Thy judgments dread appall; O heal her shattered strength before She totter to her fall. Through ways of trial and distress Thy people Thou hast led, A bitter cup Thou givest us Of misery and dread. A glorious banner Thou has giv’n To those who fear Thy Name, A banner to display abroad, And thus the truth proclaim. That Thy belovèd may be saved And from their foes set free, Help with the might of Thy right hand, In mercy answer me. God in His holiness has said: I will triumphant be, All heathen lands I claim as Mine, And they shall bow to Me. Now, therefore, who will lead us on Sin’s strongholds to possess? No longer cast us off, O God, But give our hosts success. Give Thou Thy help against the foe, For help of man is vain; Through God we shall do valiantly, The victory He shall gain.
