Psalms 34:12

Context

34:12 Do you want to really live? 1

Would you love to live a long, happy life? 2

Psalms 89:33

Context

89:33 But I will not remove 3  my loyal love from him,

nor be unfaithful to my promise. 4

1 tn Heb “Who is the man who desires life?” The rhetorical question is used to grab the audience’s attention. “Life” probably refers here to quality of life, not just physical existence or even duration of life. See the following line.

2 tn Heb “[Who] loves days to see good?”

3 tn Heb “break”; “make ineffectual.” Some prefer to emend אָפִיר (’afir; the Hiphil of פָּרַר, parar, “to break”) to אָסִיר (’asir; the Hiphil of סוּר, sur, “to turn aside”), a verb that appears in 2 Sam 7:15.

4 tn Heb “and I will not deal falsely with my faithfulness.”
