Psalms 19:6

Context

19:6 It emerges from the distant horizon, 1 

and goes from one end of the sky to the other; 2 

nothing can escape 3  its heat.

Psalms 139:9

Context

139:9 If I were to fly away 4  on the wings of the dawn, 5 

and settle down on the other side 6  of the sea,

1 tn Heb “from the end of the heavens [is] its going forth.”

2 tn Heb “and its circuit [is] to their ends.”

3 tn Heb “is hidden from.”

4 tn Heb “rise up.”

5 sn On the wings of the dawn. This personification of the “dawn” may find its roots in mythological traditions about the god Shachar, whose birth is described in an Ugaritic myth (see G. R. Driver, Canaanite Myths and Legends, 126) and who is mentioned in Isa 14:12 as the father of Helel.

6 tn Heb “at the end.”
