Psalms 130:2-4

Context

130:2 O Lord, listen to me! 1 

Pay attention to 2  my plea for mercy!

130:3 If you, O Lord, were to keep track of 3  sins,

O Lord, who could stand before you? 4 

130:4 But 5  you are willing to forgive, 6 

so that you might 7  be honored. 8 

1 tn Heb “my voice.”

2 tn Heb “may your ears be attentive to the voice of.”

3 tn Heb “observe.”

4 tn The words “before you” are supplied in the translation for clarification. The psalmist must be referring to standing before God’s judgment seat. The rhetorical question expects the answer, “No one.”

5 tn Or “surely.”

6 tn Heb “for with you [there is] forgiveness.”

7 tn Or “consequently you are.”

8 tn Heb “feared.”
