  Hold Thou my hand; so weak I am, and helpless, I dare not take one step without Thy aid; Hold Thou my hand; for then, O loving Savior, No dread of ill shall make my soul afraid. Hold Thou my hand, and closer, closer draw me To Thy dear self—my hope, my joy, my all; Hold Thou my hand, lest haply I should wander, And, missing Thee, my trembling feet should fall. Hold Thou my hand; the way is dark before me Without the sunlight of Thy face divine; But when by faith I catch its radiant glory, What heights of joy, what rapturous songs are mine! Hold Thou my hand, that when I reach the margin Of that lone river Thou didst cross for me, A heavenly light may flash along its waters, And every wave like crystal bright shall be.

O cover with Thy mercy my poor, weak heart, Lest I in joy or sorrow from Thee depart. Permit Thy child to linger here at Thy feet, Thy goodness blindly trusting with faith complete.   Why should cross and trial grieve me? Christ is near with His cheer, Never will He leave me. Who can rob me of the Heaven That God’s Son for my own To my faith hath given? Though a heavy cross I’m bearing And my heart feels the smart, Shall I be despairing? God, my Helper, who doth send it, Well doth know all my woe And how best to end it. Hopeful, cheerful, and undaunted Everywhere they appear Who in Christ are planted. Death itself cannot appall them, They rejoice when the voice Of their Lord doth call them. Death cannot destroy forever; From our fears, cares and tears It will us deliver. It will close life’s mournful story, Make a way that we may Enter heavenly glory. What is all this life possesses? But a hand full of sand That the heart distresses. Noble gifts that pall me never Christ, our Lord, will accord To His saints forever. Lord, my Shepherd, take me to Thee. Thou art mine; I was Thine Even ere I knew Thee. I am Thine, for Thou hast bought me; Lost I stood, but Thy blood Free salvation bought me. Thou art mine; I love and own Thee. Light of Joy, ne’er shall I From my heart dethrone Thee. Savior, let me soon behold Thee Face to face—may Thy grace Evermore enfold me!

• [Psa 105:4] I Look To Thee In Every Need

  I look to Thee in every need, and never look in vain; I feel Thy strong and tender love, and all is well again. The thought of Thee is mightier far than sin and pain and sorrow are. Discouraged in the work of life, disheartened by its load, Shamed by its failures or its fears, I sink beside the road. But let me only think of Thee and then new heart springs up in me. Thy calmness bends serene above, my restlessness to still; Around me flows Thy quickening life, to nerve my faltering will. Thy presence fills my solitude, Thy providence turns all to good. Enfolded deep in Thy dear love, held in Thy law, I stand; Thy hand in all things I behold, and all things in Thy hand. Thou leadest me by unsought ways, and turn my mourning into praise.

  At Thy feet, O Christ, we lay Thine own gift of this new day; Doubt of what it holds in store Makes us crave Thine aid the more; Lest it prove a time of loss, Mark, it Savior, with Thy Cross. If it flow on calm and bright, Be Thyself our chief Delight; If it bring unknown distress, Good is all that Thou canst bless; Only, while its hours begin, Pray we, keep them clear of sin. We in part our weakness know And in part discern our foe; Well for us, before Thine eyes All our danger open lies; Turn not from us, while we plead Thy compassions and our need. Fain would we Thy Word embrace, Live each moment on Thy grace, All our selves to Thee consign, Fold up all our wills in Thine, Think, and speak, and do, and be Simply that which pleases Thee. Hear us, Lord, and that right soon; Hear, and grant the choicest boon That Thy love can e’er impart, Loyal singleness of heart; So shall this and all our days, Christ and God, show forth Thy praise.

  I bless the Christ of God, I rest on love divine, And with unfaltering lip and heart, I call the Savior mine. His cross dispels each doubt; I bury in His tomb Each thought of unbelief and fear, Each lingering shade of gloom. I praise the God of peace, I trust His truth and might; He calls me His, I call Him mine, My God, my Joy, my Light. In Him is only good, in me is only ill; My ill but draws His goodness forth, And me He loveth still. ’Tis He Who saveth me, and freely pardon gives; I love because He loveth me; I live because He lives; My life with Him is hid, my death has passed away, My clouds have melted into light, My midnight into day.
