Numbers 8:26

Context
8:26 They may assist 1  their colleagues 2  in the tent of meeting, to attend to needs, but they must do no work. This is the way you must establish 3  the Levites regarding their duties.”

Numbers 22:26

Context

22:26 Then the angel of the Lord went farther, and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn either to the right or to the left.

Numbers 22:30

Context
22:30 The donkey said to Balaam, “Am not I your donkey that you have ridden ever since I was yours until this day? Have I ever attempted 4  to treat you this way?” 5  And he said, “No.”

Numbers 30:12

Context
30:12 But if her husband clearly nullifies 6  them when he hears them, then whatever she says 7  by way of vows or obligations will not stand. Her husband has made them void, and the Lord will release her from them.

1 tn The verb is the Piel perfect of שָׁרַת (sharat, “to serve, minister”). Here the form has the vav (ו) consecutive, and so is equal to the imperfect tense stressing permission. After the Levites reached the age of retirement, they were permitted to assist the others, but were not permitted to do the work themselves.

2 tn Heb “brothers,” but the meaning in this context is “fellow Levites.”

3 tn Heb “you shall do, make.”

4 tn Here the Hiphil perfect is preceded by the Hiphil infinitive absolute for emphasis in the sentence.

5 tn Heb “to do thus to you.”

6 tn The verb is the imperfect tense in the conditional clause. It is intensified with the infinitive absolute, which would have the force of saying that he nullified them unequivocally, or he made them null and void.

7 tn Heb whatever proceeds from her lips.”
