10:21 And the Kohathites set out, carrying the articles for the sanctuary; 2  the tabernacle was to be set up 3  before they arrived. 4 

1 tn The “pole” or “bar” (מוֹט, mot) is of a different style than the poles used for transporting the ark. It seems to be a flexible bar carried by two men with the implements being transported tied to the bar. The NEB suggests the items were put in a bag and slung over the bar, but there is no indication of the manner.

2 tn Heb “carrying the sanctuary,” a metonymy of whole for parts, representing all the holy objects that were located in the sanctuary.

3 tn The verb is the third person plural form; without an expressed subject it is treated as a passive.

4 tn Heb “against their coming.”
